Job Title: Mine Systems Technologist

The Mine Systems Technologist is responsible for the field execution, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mine technology systems across the operation. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and uptime of Wenco Fleet Management System (FMS) hardware, communications infrastructure, and supporting mine systems. Working under the guidance of the Mine Systems EIT, this position plays a critical role in the day-to-day support and performance of onboard systems, network infrastructure, and field devices.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Wenco FMS Hardware Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain Wenco onboard hardware on mobile mining equipment

  • Troubleshoot and repair FMS components, including:

    • Operator displays
    • GPS units and antennas
    • Communication radios and modems
    • Sensors and onboard wiring
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on FMS hardware

  • Support field validation and functional testing of systems

Network & Communications Support

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot the open pit mesh network
  • Assist with setup, alignment, and optimization of network nodes, towers, and access points
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues affecting mine systems
  • Escalate complex network or infrastructure issues to EIT/IT teams
  • Ensure system redundancy and reliability in harsh mining conditions

Mine Technology Systems Support

  • Support installation and maintenance of additional mining technologies, including:
    • Tire monitoring systems
    • High-precision GPS and positioning systems
    • Safety and collision avoidance systems
    • Pit monitoring and other digital solutions
  • Assist with system integration and field-level troubleshooting

Field Execution & Troubleshooting

  • Provide hands-on, frontline support for system faults and outages
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns impacting production in a timely manner
  • Perform initial diagnostics and escalate issues when required
  • Execute corrective actions to restore system functionality

Installation & Commissioning

  • Install hardware on new and existing equipment (mounting, wiring, and cable routing)
  • Support commissioning of new fleet and technology systems
  • Ensure installations meet site standards and technical specifications
  • Verify system functionality prior to operational handover

Documentation & Reporting

  • Validate and monitor operational data streams (equipment health, production metrics, cycle times)
  • Record completed work, deficiencies, and system modifications
  • Maintain accurate asset tracking and maintenance logs
  • Provide feedback to Mine Systems EIT on recurring issues and improvement opportunities

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support

  • Work closely with:
  • Mine Systems EIT (technical support and escalation)
  • Mine operations (dispatchers, supervisors, operators)
  • Maintenance teams (equipment access and repair coordination)
  • IT teams and external vendors as required
  • Support operator training on system usage when needed
  • Promote adoption of digital tools and best practices across the site

Additional Duties

  • Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certification in Electronics, Instrumentation, IT, or related field

Experience / Skills

  • 3–7 years of experience in mining technology, fleet management systems, or industrial networks
  • Experience with Wenco FMS (or similar systems such as Modular or Hexagon)
  • Familiarity with wireless communications, IP networking, and mesh networks (RF preferred)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in operational environments
  • Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
  • Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.     

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.    

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.      

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is CAD $50-$60, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
