Job description

Leidos Enterprise Civil Div. in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is looking for talent in the networking field to work out of Lorton, Virginia as a Network Engineer. In FY23 Leidos was awarded the Homeland Enterprise Information Technology Secure Services and Support (HEITS) follow-on contract to support and enhance the DHS networks, Homeland Secure Data Network (HSDN) and the Classified-Local Area Network (C-LAN).

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end network installation and configuration activities, ensuring successful deployment, and maintaining high network quality standards. This role requires a deep technical understanding of networking technologies, strong leadership abilities, and effective project management skills on both classified and unclassified networks. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and various engineers, to oversee the deployment of customer network infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the deployment of network solutions across various geographic locations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and testing of network hardware and software, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (engineering, deployment, IA) to ensure smooth deployment and integration of network systems.

  • Ensure adherence to network design and security best practices, including implementation of redundancies, scalability, and fault-tolerant solutions.

  • Create detailed project plans, manage timelines, track progress, and address any issues that arise during the deployment lifecycle.

  • Design, engineer, and implement local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Data Center networks, and other network-related technologies.

  • Perform network configuration and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and security.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate network solutions for new and existing systems.

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of network deployment processes, configurations, and troubleshooting logs.

  • Perform site surveys to assess site readiness and determine deployment needs.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and deployment staff.

  • Collaborate with network architects to ensure designs are aligned with deployment requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any network issues that arise during deployment and post-deployment phases.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct regular maintenance and firmware upgrades on critical network infrastructure.

  • Create required engineering documentation for network related projects.

  • Provide on-call support and response for critical system emergencies, as required

Qualifications

Clearance Required:Active TS/SCI

Degree and Years of Experience:Bachelor's degree in technology related field with 8+ years of experience with Network Engineering in an enterprise environment (or equivalent experience)

Required Skills:

  • Solid experience with routing and switching technologies (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).

  • In-depth knowledge of L2/L3 network protocols/technologies (TCP/IP, iBGP, eBGP, OSPF, VLANs, 802.1q, LAG, etc.) and network security best practices.

  • Experience with network management tools and network monitoring systems.

  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross-functional teams or projects.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to addressing network deployment challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
