General Responsibility
Design, implement, maintain, secure, and support enterprise network infrastructure in accordance with SLED standards and industry best practices. Serve as a senior technical resource for network architecture, routing, switching, firewall administration, wireless infrastructure, VPN technologies, and network security initiatives. Coordinate with server, security, desktop support, and application teams to evaluate infrastructure requirements, implement secure solutions, and support operations. Monitor network performance, troubleshoot complex issues, recommend improvements, and assist with maintaining a secure and resilient enterprise environment.
Specific Duties
  • Design, implement, maintain, secure, and support enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, VPN technologies, network monitoring systems, and related hardware/software components. Perform firmware, IOS, and security updates to maintain operational stability, performance, and security across all SLED locations. Develop automation tools and scripts for network management and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as senior technical liaison for Server, Security, Application Development, and End User Support teams to assess infrastructure requirements, support agency projects, and ensure compliance with security standards, network architecture requirements, and operational policies. Provide technical recommendations and assist with planning and implementation of infrastructure changes.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend network and security technologies, policies, standards, and best practices related to routing, switching, BGP routing, VXLAN segmentation, wireless networking, firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, authentication systems, and 802.1X network access control.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution efforts for complex network and infrastructure issues. Analyze network performance, security events, outages, and operational trends to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to improve reliability, availability, and security of enterprise systems. Support resilient network infrastructure through redundancy, failover, hot/hot disaster recovery connectivity, and disaster recovery practices. Assist with development and maintenance of network architecture standards, disaster recovery connectivity designs, and operational procedures.
  • Lead and assist with audits, compliance initiatives, disaster recovery planning, documentation, and security reviews involving network infrastructure and related technologies. Maintain network diagrams, operational documentation, and technical procedures to support agency operations and continuity planning.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless systems, and network security technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, VXLAN, BGP, ISE, RADIUS, 802.1X, Cisco technologies, firewall administration, and disaster recovery networking.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues, maintain technical documentation, support critical infrastructure systems, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Position is subject to travel, including overnight travel.
  • Position requires participation in a 24/7 infrastructure support on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CCIE, CCNP, PCNSE, or equivalent certifications preferred.
