Job Description

BCBS of MS is looking for a Server Systems Engineer. This person will be the primary liaison between the Server Engineering team and the Information Security/SOC team so this will be more of a security focused role. This person does not need to have a background in Security but they need to understand and be willing to work in a Security focused role. BCBS is not looking for someone who has been siloed in their job function (i.e. they have only ever created user accounts and don't have experience with anything else). This is a senior level position where they want someone well rounded in multiple technologies and tasks.

This candidate will responsible for handling engineering task, will need to be experienced in Active Directory, especially within Group Policy, AD design and security. This position will investigate all security tickets that are generated out of the SOC in their area. Web application experience (F5 load balancer and ASM product) connectivity to communicate with servers. Person will need knowledge around NSX. Another team would spin up servers (they would request it thru process and would not be spinning up server). 95%-10%, primary Windows.

The Server Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, documentation, and maintenance of corporate servers, server applications, and storage systems. The Server Systems Engineer will manage vendor relationships to ensure service goals are met and issues are resolved timely. The Server Systems Engineer is responsible for problem diagnosis and resolution for the open systems environment. The Server Systems Engineer will ensure open systems application availability and response time goals are met. The Server Systems Engineer will participate in activities related to Business Recovery including improving the server system recoverability model and participating in the semi-annual tests. The Server Systems Engineer will research and prepare direction papers for the open systems environment.

Upcoming Projects:

- migrating file share to new hardware. Will need to manage end users through that project and migration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Job-Specific Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math or related field or industry server level certification such as MCITP, MCSE, VCP, or Linux related certifications or equivalent experience required.
  • 4+ years experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and in supporting server related infrastructure and software.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with network directory services such as Microsoft Active Directory required.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with messaging systems such as Microsoft Exchange required.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with managing storage area networks.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of current networking technologies, security administration, and backup & disaster recovery technologies and solutions.
  • Working Linux knowledge preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills required.
  • Must work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail keeping quality results as the central focus of all work.
