Job description

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our Information Technology team. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, security, and operation of Electric Hydrogen's enterprise network infrastructure across offices, manufacturing facilities, data centers, and cloud environments. You will deliver highly available, scalable, and secure network services that support business operations, partnering closely with Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Cloud Infrastructure, and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

This position is based on-site at our San Jose, CA, or Devens, MA, office, with hybrid accommodations possible for a highly qualified candidate. The role reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient enterprise network infrastructure across multiple locations
  • Design and support campus, WAN, wireless, VPN, and data center networks
  • Develop network segmentation strategies, VLAN architectures, routing, switching, firewall policies, and secure remote access solutions
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new networking technologies and architectural improvements
  • Ensure high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery for critical network infrastructure
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and load balancing technologies
  • Manage enterprise firewall platforms, VPN connectivity, NAC, and network access controls
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and security using enterprise monitoring tools
  • Investigate and resolve complex network performance and connectivity issues
  • Implement security best practices including network segmentation, Zero Trust principles, IDS/IPS, and secure remote access
  • Support vulnerability remediation and infrastructure hardening initiatives
  • Support networking for VMware-based data centers and hybrid cloud environments
  • Design and maintain connectivity between on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms including Azure and AWS
  • Support DNS, DHCP, IP address management, and network services
  • Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning from a networking perspective
  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Cloud Infrastructure, Manufacturing Engineering, and external vendors to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions
  • Participate in infrastructure planning, technology evaluations, and cross-functional projects
  • Provide Tier III escalation support for complex networking issues
  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, standards, configurations, and operational documentation
  • Create standard operating procedures and troubleshooting guides
  • Mentor junior IT staff and share networking best practices across the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure
  • Strong experience with enterprise routing and switching technologies
  • Hands-on experience administering Fortinet and Cisco networking platforms, including FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager, Cisco switches, routers, and wireless infrastructure
  • Experience designing secure enterprise networks using VLANs, routing protocols, VPNs, firewall policies, and network segmentation
  • Familiarity with VMware networking and virtual infrastructure
  • Experience with network monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis tools
  • Strong understanding of enterprise cybersecurity principles and Zero Trust networking
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and project management skills
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, Operational Technology (OT), or industrial environments preferred
  • Familiarity with industrial networking technologies, including Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, or DNP3 preferred
  • Understanding of OT cybersecurity principles, including network segmentation and standards such as IEC 62443 or NIST SP 800-82 preferred
  • Experience working with SCADA systems, industrial automation platforms, or industrial control networks preferred
  • Experience supporting Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, FortiAnalyzer, or FortiAuthenticator preferred
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE/FCP/FCSS), CISSP, or GICSP strongly preferred
