Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Network Engineer – Core/IP Infrastructure is responsible for designing, implementing, and operating i3 Broadband’s carrier‑grade IP backbone and aggregation network. This role ensures the scalability, resiliency, and performance of the network that powers broadband, voice, and video services across i3’s expanding fiber footprint. The position focuses on advanced routing architecture, network reliability engineering, traffic optimization, and network automation to support multi‑gigabit fiber broadband growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and evolve carrier‑grade core and aggregation IP network architecture supporting broadband services.
  • Implement and manage routing infrastructure using platforms such as Cisco and Nokia service provider routers.
  • Engineer and troubleshoot routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and IS‑IS.
  • Design highly resilient network topologies with redundancy, geographic failover, and traffic engineering.
  • Develop and maintain network automation using Python, Ansible, Netconf, and API‑based configuration tools.
  • Monitor backbone performance and perform deep root‑cause analysis on network incidents.
  • Optimize traffic engineering policies to ensure efficient bandwidth utilization and service reliability.
  • Support backbone connectivity including transit providers, IXPs, and peering partners.
  • Maintain network documentation including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
  • Provide Tier‑IV escalation support for critical network incidents and participate in on‑call rotation.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8–12+ years of experience in ISP, telecommunications, or service provider network engineering environments.
  • Extensive experience operating carrier‑grade routing infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and supporting high‑availability IP backbone networks.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent preferred.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, IPv4 and IPv6 architecture.
  • Strong expertise with BGP, OSPF, and IS‑IS routing protocols.
  • Experience with MPLS, multicast routing, and traffic engineering.
  • Experience with CGNAT and large‑scale subscriber network environments.
  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM services.
  • Experience with network automation and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in high‑availability environments.


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, working at a computer up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to operate personal computers, telephones, and other common office equipment.
  • Able to climb and work on a ladder
