Project Manager II Job Description

The Project Manager II position involves leading and managing strategic roadmap projects and other unplanned initiatives. This role requires overseeing complex technical projects from inception to completion while engaging with stakeholders at various levels. The successful candidate will ensure project accountability, apply appropriate project management methodologies, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all phases of project management, from initiation to closure, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Apply flexible and responsive project management methodologies based on project requirements.
  • Establish clear performance indicators for project success and ensure team members understand their responsibilities and deliverables.
  • Guide stakeholders to clarify objectives, reduce delivery risks, and prevent scope creep.
  • Implement regular check-ins and updates to assess project status and make necessary adjustments.
  • Promote a culture of accountability within the project team.
  • Oversee IT systems implementation, collaborating with teams for servers, networks, architecture, and cloud services.
  • Support the creation of documentation for project handover post-hypercare phase.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards and best practices in project management.
  • Collaborate with IT streams to respond to incidents, investigate root causes, and implement corrective measures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support the development and execution of communication plans to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop proactive risk mitigation plans.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving project-related issues.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure projects are delivered within financial constraints.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to project team members.
  • Work with IT leaders to allocate necessary resources.
  • Create and maintain detailed project documentation.
  • Consolidate project data for portfolio-level reporting.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews and document successes and areas for improvement.
  • Define measurable project benefits and success criteria.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Contribute to initiatives for training and professional development.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, focusing on complex projects.
  • Eligibility for reliability clearance.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid-Agile approaches, Waterfall delivery, and SCRUM methodology.
  • Experience with on-prem and cloud technology implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing medium- and large-scale projects.
  • Ability to construct slide decks and present project messaging effectively.
  • Proficiency in project management tools like Smartsheet and MS Projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, PMI-ACP, CSM, PgMP) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale AI projects is advantageous.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure components, networking principles, and cybersecurity concepts is advantageous.

Work Environment

This role requires flexibility to work from multiple office locations, including Pemberton, Harbourside, and Capilano Business Park. The position supports the Project Control Portal project, reporting to the Director, IT Planning and PMO. A reliability security clearance is required for some locations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of North Vancouver, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $90.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
