Job description

Greenlight Networks is a Fiber to the Home Internet Service Provider (ISP) dedicated to delivering high-quality internet connectivity and innovative network solutions to businesses and residential customers. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a key role in designing, deploying, and maintaining our high-performance network infrastructure.

As a Senior Network Engineer at Greenlight Networks, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our network infrastructure. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of core network systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to support our rapidly growing customer base. This position requires expertise in both ISP-specific networking technologies and advanced troubleshooting skills to maintain a high level of service quality.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of complex, large-scale ISP networks including routing, switching, and IP/MPLS architecture.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define network architecture and solutions that meet the company’s performance, security, and scalability requirements.
  • Oversee the deployment of new network services, upgrades, and enhancements, ensuring minimal disruption to customers.
  • Continuously monitor network performance and proactively identify areas for improvement in efficiency, reliability, and latency.
  • Optimize network routes and configurations to enhance traffic flow and minimize congestion, ensuring optimal performance for all users.
  • Installation of POP equipment and jumpers for new customer turnups. This includes installation of jumpers for all POP/Datacenter devices as well as cross connects and new PON activation.
  • Act as the escalation point for network-related issues, providing expertise in identifying and resolving complex network problems.
  • Perform root cause analysis for network outages or disruptions, ensuring rapid resolution and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate with network monitoring tools and software to provide real-time network performance visibility.
  • Implement and enforce network security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly assess the network infrastructure for potential security vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of network topologies, configurations, and processes.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on network performance, uptime, and incidents to management and stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior network engineers, guiding them through technical challenges and professional development.
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as IT, software engineering, and customer support, to integrate network services with other systems and applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and Layer 2/Layer 3 network protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with ISP-specific technologies such as IP/MPLS, VPNs, QoS, and traffic shaping.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with network management tools and network monitoring platforms.
  • Exceptional diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, particularly with large-scale ISP networks.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage critical issues during outages or disruptions.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and handle multiple priorities.

Other Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in an ISP environment or similar large-scale networking setup.
  • Advanced certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent are preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and the ability to maintain insurability under the company's auto policy are essential.

Compensation:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The annual pay range for this position is $114K – $130K.
