Job description

We are seeking a motivated Level 1 Network Engineer to assist in maintaining and upgrading our Cisco switching infrastructure. The candidate will work under senior network engineers and follow established processes to execute code upgrades, perform basic debugging, and support day-to-day operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with Cisco switch code upgrades following standard operating procedures.
• Perform pre- and post-upgrade checks including device health, port status, and connectivity validation.
• Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 engineers with clear documentation of troubleshooting steps performed.
• Run basic debug and show commands on Cisco switches (e.g., show log, show interface, show version).
• Ensure change management processes are followed, including updating change tickets and documentation.
• Monitor switch performance and generate health reports after upgrades.
• Maintain accurate records of firmware/software versions across the switch fleet.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (NOC, SOC, and Helpdesk) to resolve incidents.
• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and provide on-call support when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• 1-2 years of experience in network operations or related IT support role.
• Basic understanding of Cisco networking concepts (VLANs, STP, trunking, EtherChannel, SNMP, syslog).
• Familiarity with Cisco IOS and IOS-XE CLI.
• Knowledge of network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, or similar).
• Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to follow runbooks accurately.
• Good communication skills to document and escalate issues effectively.
• Ability to work during off-hours for planned maintenance.
Preferred Skills
