Job description

Job Summary:
xAI is focused on creating AI systems that enhance our understanding of the universe. The Associate Data Center Operations Technician will support the health and reliability of server and network infrastructure, contributing to key operations metrics and working closely with senior technicians to improve processes.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with troubleshooting and monitoring of servers and network equipment in our data centers and global points of presence.
• Support rack and stack of data center network equipment.
• Help maintain warehouse inventory and asset management using our internal application.
• Assist with labeling and troubleshooting of fiber/optics cables.
• Support power supply cabling, installation, troubleshooting, and basic repair activities.
• Participate in the installation of racks, servers, and switches (staging, cabling, power-up, and handoff to the provisioning team).
• Help manage, respond to, and resolve data center operations tickets via Jira.
• Create and maintain documentation of tasks and standard operating procedures.
• Assist with receipt and decommissioning of data center hardware.
• Support vendor returns for infrastructure under and out of warranty.
• Help manage spare parts inventory within the data center.
• Support the definition, design, and implementation of network layouts and solutions within our data centers.
Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 0–2 years of experience working with server, storage, compute, or network hardware (recent graduates or early-career candidates encouraged to apply)
• Demonstrated interest or hands-on experience troubleshooting servers or networking equipment
• Experience or strong interest in inventory management, receiving, or shipping physical equipment
• Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
• Position is subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks
• Work is often performed in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions
• Ability to lift up to 35lbs. unassisted
• Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear
• Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise
• Available to work evenings and weekends as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required
Preferred:
• Basic Linux skills or strong desire to learn (navigating directories, file manipulation, basic commands)
• Experience being on-call or responding to technical issues
• Curious and eager to learn new things within the Data Center world
• Excellent prioritization and time management skills
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Detail oriented
• Oracle or other inventory system experience
• Exposure to structured cabling (copper/fiber)
• Exposure to power and cooling concepts inside the data center
