Job description

JOB TITLE: Network Security Platform Engineer JOB LOCATION: Northborough, MA (onsite 3-6 months to start than remote/hybrid flexibility) WAGE RANGE*: $70-80/hr. JOB NUMBER: NGGJP00017721 Job Description: As a Network Security and Platform Engineer, you will provide technical support for systems hardware, operating systems, software, and related infrastructure. You will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of these systems, ensuring they adhere to organizational standards and security requirements. This role requires a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently or collaboratively, and the skill to lead work efforts and resources across functions to achieve key outcomes. Section 2 – Key Responsibilities & Duties Infrastructure & Network Operations Remote Site Support: Support remote sites, including data centers, providing "smart hands " support for infrastructure and network equipment. Routing & Switching: Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routing and switching infrastructure within a multi-site environment. Hardware Deployment: Install ( "Rack and Stack "), upgrade IOS on new equipment, and remove system components using supplied installation instructions and tools. Traffic Management: Administer and optimize application delivery and traffic-balancing platforms to ensure high availability and performance. Security, Compliance, & Risk Management Firewall Management: Manage and maintain enterprise-grade network firewalls, including rule creation, policy reviews, and security hardening. Vulnerability Assessments: Perform network vulnerability assessments and port-scanning activities to identify and remediate security risks. Compliance: Strictly follow NERC CIP Standards and meet time-sensitive deadlines. Work with vendors as needed to support compliance activities. Patching: Maintain and report on security patching within required timeframes for all Firewalls, Routers, Switches, applications for backups, syslog, monitoring, and network appliances. Monitoring, Maintenance, & Disaster Recovery System Monitoring: Perform daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, and key processes. Log Management: Oversee centralized log collection, monitoring, and alerting systems to support operational visibility, diagnostics, and incident response. Backup & Recovery: Manage secure network backup processes (including automated configurations, validation, and restoration procedures) and participate in Disaster Recovery exercises. Performance Reporting: Review system/application logs, verify completion of scheduled jobs, and perform periodic performance reporting of hardware to support capacity planning. Operations, Testing, & Configuration Troubleshooting: Gather information, define, and resolve infrastructure issues or outages in a timely fashion, providing technical support for both hardware and software. Testing: Design test cases, create test scripts/data, automate repeatable tasks, execute manual/automated testing, and document results. Configuration Management: Apply tools, techniques, and processes to track, log, report on, and correct configuration items and changes. Assist with configuration audits. Section 3 – Position Requirements & Working Conditions On-Call Availability: Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation providing application and hardware support. Travel Requirement: Position requires 25% travel on a monthly basis by vehicle.
