Network Engineer Contracts are temporary work arrangements in which a network engineer is hired for a specific period or project, rather than as a permanent employee. Contract network engineers are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an organization's computer networks, often focusing on tasks like troubleshooting, upgrades, or migrations. These roles can offer flexibility, higher hourly rates, and opportunities to work on diverse projects, but may not include benefits like health insurance or paid time off. Contract positions are common in IT, especially for specialized skills or short-term needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a network engineer contract?

To thrive as a Network Engineer Contract, you need a solid understanding of networking protocols, infrastructure design, and troubleshooting, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Cisco IOS, network monitoring software, and certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for managing dynamic IT environments and collaborating with diverse teams. These skills ensure reliable network performance, minimize downtime, and support organizational connectivity needs in contract-based settings.

What are some common challenges faced by contract network engineers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Contract network engineers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new organizational environments, understanding unique network infrastructures, and integrating with existing IT teams. Job description

Joint Venture / AP Accountant (Contract)

Our client, a growing Calgary-based energy company, is seeking an experienced Senior Joint Venture / AP Accountant for a focused 3-month contract engagement, with strong potential for extension or permanent transition. Reporting to the VP of Finance and working closely with the accounting and field operations teams, this role is critical in supporting the integration and cost accounting transition for a newly acquired, 100% operated Alberta oil asset producing 500 bbl/d.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead the full-cycle accounts payable, cost allocation, and vendor accounting for newly acquired operational assets during the transitional integration phase
  • Work directly within JV Nexus to code, allocate, and process field-level operating expenses across specific cost centers and AFEs
  • Assist with the setup, testing, and workflow integration of Pandell’s AP/VP (Accounts Payable / Vendor Portal) module alongside vendor and system partners
  • Audit incoming vendor invoices, resolve code/allocation discrepancies, and execute full-cycle payables to ensure seamless operational continuity
  • Collaborate with field operations, joint venture partners, and executive leadership to establish reliable cost-tracking processes and field reporting models
  • Utilize advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, complex formulas, data reconciliations) to review, validate, and manipulate financial datasets transferred during asset onboarding
Your strengths include:
  • Strong, hands-on experience utilizing JV Nexus for joint venture and cost accounting operations
  • Proven track record in full-cycle AP, vendor management, and field-level cost center allocations within the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB)
  • Experience or familiarity with Pandell software modules, specifically AP/VP (or equivalent vendor portals/OpenInvoice workflows)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, data reconciliations, and financial modeling
  • Adaptability and confidence stepping into dynamic, acquisition-driven environments to establish clean accounting workflows with minimal supervision
  • Prior experience in operated oil and gas assets, AFE tracking, and joint venture accounting standards is required
