Engineer II / I ( Distribution)

Location:  Pell City, AL 35128
 Contract- 3 Years

Client- Albama Power


Job Summary

The Distribution Engineer plays a key role in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power distribution systems. This position ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of power while maintaining compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental standards. The engineer will manage projects from planning through implementation, coordinate with field and design teams, and identify opportunities for network improvements and modernization.


Key Responsibilities
  • System Design & Planning

    • Design and plan overhead and underground distribution systems for power delivery.

    • Review and approve detailed design drawings, equipment specifications, and standards.

    • Perform load flow, fault, and voltage-drop analyses to ensure system reliability.

  • Network Optimization & Project Management

    • Optimize the distribution network for efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from initiation through closeout, ensuring schedule, budget, and scope compliance.

    • Develop project plans, material estimates, and coordinate field implementation.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure all designs and activities meet applicable NESC, NEC, OSHA, and local utility standards.

    • Promote a culture of Safety First through all project phases.

  • System Analysis & Maintenance

    • Identify opportunities for network upgrades, replacements, and proactive maintenance.

    • Support field operations with engineering analysis during outages, restoration, and troubleshooting.

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Coordination

    • Work cross-functionally with engineers, field technicians, project managers, and external partners.

    • Provide customer and internal technical support for distribution projects and inquiries.

  • Documentation & Quality Control

    • Maintain accurate records, design drawings, as-builts, and project documentation.

    • Conduct quality assurance reviews of design deliverables to ensure adherence to company and industry standards.


Qualifications
  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 5–10 years of progressive experience in distribution system design, project management, or operations.

    • Experience in the energy or utility industry preferred.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency with distribution system design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, CYME, PLS-CADD, GIS).

    • Strong knowledge of electrical load analysis, protection coordination, and system modeling.

    • Familiarity with construction standards, permitting, and material management systems.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination abilities.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams and external customers.

    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality, safety, and reliability.
