Job description

Meet Slingshot

At Slingshot Aerospace, we're on a mission to make space safer and more secure for everyone. Our work directly impacts global security, disaster response, climate monitoring, and the critical infrastructure that connects our world. We're a team of builders, thinkers, and problem-solvers who believe that the next generation of space operations will be powered by better data and smarter software.

We move fast, we're not afraid to fail, and we believe the best ideas can come from anywhere-whether you're in engineering, sales, product, or operations. If you want to work on something that truly matters, with people who care deeply about the impact we're making and help shape the future of an industry that's just getting started, you're in the right place.

What You'll Be Launching

As a Network Engineer on the Global Sensor Network (GSN) Operations team, you will help deploy, maintain, secure, and evolve the networks powering Slingshot's remote sensor infrastructure around the world. You'll serve as a key technical escalation point for site connectivity and infrastructure issues while helping define the future-state architecture for scalable, resilient, and secure remote operations.

This role sits at the intersection of networking, infrastructure, operations, and cybersecurity-supporting mission-critical environments that enable real-time space domain awareness and global sensor operations.

We're building a team of sharp, creative people who love solving hard problems. Bring your expertise, your perspective, and your drive-we'll bring the rocket fuel.

Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept It) Network Operations & Infrastructure
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and support LAN infrastructure across remote Global Sensor Network sites.
  • Troubleshoot complex connectivity issues involving routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and IPsec tunnels.
  • Support hybrid connectivity between remote infrastructure and AWS cloud environments.
  • Maintain secure remote access infrastructure, including VPN alternatives, MDM, and host management solutions.
Incident Response & Operational Excellence
  • Serve as a primary escalation point for network-related outages, degradation, and operational incidents.
  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement planning.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, network diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Continuously improve network reliability, observability, scalability, and operational maturity across distributed sites.
Security & Architecture
  • Improve cybersecurity posture through secure network design, firewall policy management, segmentation, and access controls.
  • Support the transition from Palo Alto-based environments to Cisco-based network architectures.
  • Monitor and respond to network-based threats in coordination with security and DevSecOps teams.
  • Support domestic and international networking regulations, including interoperability and data sovereignty requirements.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner cross-functionally with Field Operations, DevSecOps, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to support site readiness and operational success.
  • Support maintenance windows, hardware refreshes, and new remote-site activations.
  • Contribute to network automation, infrastructure-as-code initiatives, and operational standardization efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve remote infrastructure performance, maintainability, and resilience.

Pre-Flight Checklist
  • Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise or remote-site network infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and firewall policies.
  • Hands-on experience with firewall technologies, preferably Palo Alto Networks.
  • Familiarity with Cisco Meraki networking platforms and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Experience troubleshooting IPsec VPN tunnels and AWS networking environments, including VPCs, routing tables, and security groups.
  • Comfortable working with Linux-based systems in networked infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues and drive incidents through resolution.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in remote or distributed operational environments.

Bonus Cargo
  • Experience supporting remote infrastructure, sensor networks, edge sites, industrial networks, or distributed field environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, automation, configuration management, or observability tools.
  • Familiarity with zero trust principles, secure remote administration, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Experience with network migrations, incident management, and root cause analysis processes.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, PCNSA, PCNSE, Meraki certifications, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, or AWS Solutions Architect.
