Job description

VP of Business Technology

Location: Salt Lake City, UT - Role starts out in office with the ability to go hybrid.

We are seeking a hands-on and strategic Vice President of Business Technologyto lead the technology function. This position is responsible for owning the systems that power our leasing business end-to-end, including Salesforce, NetSuite, and the leasing-specific platforms and tools we use or will build. The Vice President of Business Technology will be instrumental in architecting, extending, and scaling our technology stack, ensuring that our systems align with our business objectives and enhancing our competitive positioning in the leasing market.

This is an in-office leadership role based at our Salt Lake City headquarters. The Vice President of Business Technology will work daily alongside our executive team and Utah-based operations staff, serve as the technology leader in the local office, and keep a direct eye on our on-premise server setup and local infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in software development and enterprise systems, deep hands-on experience with Salesforce and NetSuite, and a track record of evaluating, implementing, or building technology within a financial institution, leasing company, or fintech environment.

The Vice President of Business Technology will collaborate closely with the executive team, sales, operations, pricing, documentation, and accounting to develop strategies and implement solutions that foster our organic growth and manage risk. This position will drive three immediate priorities: a full review and rework of our Managed Service Provider arrangement, the implementation of a SOC 2 equivalent controls framework, and the broad deployment of AI to scale the business without proportional headcount growth. This role requires a blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and strong leadership capabilities.

Essential Duties:

MSP Analysis & Rework

  • Audit the current Managed Service Provider arrangement against the company’s strategic needs, identifying gaps in architectural partnership, response quality, and value for cost.

  • Determine whether to align with a single, more capable Tier 1 partner or to unbundle services across a multivendor ecosystem and execute on the chosen path.

  • Re-scope and negotiate MSP and MSSP relationships to ensure we are paying for architectural partnership (Azure Landing Zones, Zero Trust, proactive engineering) rather than commodity ticket support.

  • Own ongoing MSP and MSSP performance management, including SLAs, quarterly business reviews, and escalations.

  • SOC 2 Equivalent Strategy & Execution

  • Lead a 'controls first, audit second' approach that separates operational security from market certification.

  • Implement the full SOC 2 controls framework immediately to ensure the business is secure and risks are properly managed, independent of whether we pursue a formal audit.

  • Deploy automated governance tooling to continuously track, evidence, and report on controls across the environment.

  • Stand the company up to trigger a third-party audit on short notice when a Fortune 500 client or other prospect requires the certificate to close a deal.

AI Implementation & Non-Linear Growth

  • Develop and execute an enterprise AI strategy focused on scaling revenue and operational efficiency without scaling headcount at the same rate.

  • Deploy LLM-based solutions to handle repetitive, high-volume tasks across credit, pricing, documentation, billing, and customer service, running 24/7.

  • Restructure workflows so that our subject-matter experts act as validators and decision-makers rather than data-entry clerks.

  • Partner with department leaders to identify the highest-value automation opportunities and deliver measurable productivity gains that support the company's 20%+ annual growth objectives.

Systems Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive technology roadmap across Salesforce, NetSuite, and the broader leasing platform stack to support the company's growth objectives.

  • Create and own the company's formal systems architecture, including integration diagrams, data flows, and a documented gap analysis against our current state.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and execute on dedicated leasing-industry platforms (such as Odessa, LTi ASPIRE, Solifi, or similar), including business case, RFP, vendor selection, and implementation.

  • Make informed build-vs-buy decisions, balancing the use of best-in-class leasing platforms against custom extensions to our existing Salesforce and NetSuite environments.

Salesforce, NetSuite & Application Development

  • Lead, and personally contribute to, hands-on development across Salesforce (Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows) and NetSuite (SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, SuiteAnalytics).

  • Design and deliver integrations between Salesforce, NetSuite, NetGain, our proprietary fleet management system, customer-facing portals (iTrack), and supporting tools such as FirmWorks, IntelliStack, Avalara, and DocuSign.

  • Oversee the continued migration from on-premise QuickBooks to NetSuite, ensuring clean data, clean processes, and no disruption to accounting operations.

  • Maintain data integrity, security, and backup posture across all core business systems.

Local Infrastructure & Office Technology Leadership

  • Oversee the on-premise server setup and local infrastructure at the Salt Lake City headquarters, including virtualization hosts, domain controllers, networking (Sonicwall, Unifi), and endpoint fleet. Serve as the technology leader in the local office, acting as the primary escalation point for Utah-based staff and ensuring a high-quality day-to-day experience with the company's systems.

  • Own the relationship between the on-premise and cloud environments, including the planned migration of remaining on-premise workloads into Azure where appropriate.

  • Ensure that physical and network security controls at the headquarters align with the company's broader security posture.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Start hands-on as an individual contributor with leadership responsibility, then grow a small, high-leverage team of administrators, developers, and analysts as the business scales.

  • Set performance expectations, KPIs, and development plans for direct reports and internal technology resources.

  • Serve as a trusted partner to the CEO, COO, and other department heads on all technology matters.

  • Oversee annual renewals and negotiations for all CRM, ERP, cybersecurity, and IT contracts, ensuring favorable terms and continued alignment with business needs.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on software development and enterprise systems experience, with at least 5 years in a senior technology leadership position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or combined experience with education.

  • Deep hands-on experience with Salesforce development (Apex, Lightning Web Components, integrations) and NetSuite customization (SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, SuiteAnalytics).

  • Experience evaluating, implementing, extending, or building on at least one dedicated leasing or equipment finance platform (Odessa, LTi ASPIRE, Solifi / IDS, Alfa, NetGain, or similar).

  • Demonstrated AI and automation implementation experience, including production deployments of LLMbased tools that changed how a team operated.

  • Experience working within or alongside a financial institution, leasing company, specialty finance firm, or fintech, strongly preferred.

  • Fluency in API architecture, data integration, and modern cloud practices; experience with Microsoft Azure preferred, given our current stack.

  • Track record of managing MSP and MSSP vendor relationships and re-scoping them for strategic value.

  • Familiarity with SOC 2 controls frameworks and financial services compliance expectations.

  • Adherence to laws and best practices regarding dealings with financial service customers and data.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Be the most technical person in the room and the most business-minded person in the engineering discussion.

  • Demonstrate a builder's mindset. Comfortable writing code, shipping features, and owning outcomes rather than delegating all execution.

  • Be a quick learner, result-oriented, organized, and highly detail-oriented with strong follow-through skills.

  • Exhibit strategic thinking paired with the operational discipline to deliver projects on time and on budget.

  • Maintain a customer-centric orientation, recognizing that internal customers are our own team members who depend on these systems every day.

  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and discretion when working with sensitive financial and customer data.

  • Be productive and efficient under varying volumes of work and rapidly shifting priorities.

  • Have strong interpersonal skills, professional poise, and a true teamwork mentality that shows up in person at the Salt Lake City office every day
