As the QA Automation Lead, you will drive the strategy, design, and execution of automated testing across our primary storage engineering portfolio. You will lead a high-performing automation team, partner closely with development, product management, DevOps, and solution engineering, and ensure that automation frameworks, test coverage, and regression pipelines consistently meet the needs of modern, distributed storage systems.

This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people leadership. You will define the automation roadmap, architect next-generation test frameworks, and elevate overall product quality and release velocity.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Own and evolve the QA automation strategy for multiple product lines, aligned with organizational quality and release goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of automation engineers; establish best practices, coding standards, and high-quality test development processes.
  • Advocate for automation-first quality culture across engineering teams, ensuring automation is integrated early in design and development.

Automation Framework & Tools:

  • Architect, extend, and maintain robust automation frameworks — primarily Python-based and containerized on Linux environments.
  • Ensure frameworks support unit, integration, system, performance, and stability testing across diverse storage and infrastructure components.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and frameworks; introduce innovative approaches to improve test reliability, coverage, and execution speed.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work:

  • Work closely with Software Engineering, Product, DevOps, Platform OS teams, and QE Regression teams to ensure seamless integration of automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define automation requirements, plan test coverage, and support release readiness.
  • Contribute to usability, architecture, and system design discussions to ensure testability is built into the product.

Execution & Quality Ownership:

  • Oversee automated test planning, development, execution, and triage for functional, performance, compatibility, and regression suites.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for automation failures; ensure solid tracking and follow-through with development teams.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of products under test to design optimal automated scenarios and tools.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in QA automation, software development, or test engineering, with significant hands-on automation work.
  • Strong scripting/programming background (Python required; familiarity with C, Shell, or similar languages a plus).
  • Proficiency testing complex distributed systems, storage technologies (NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel), or infrastructure products.
  • Experience developing automation frameworks, preferably Linux-based and containerized.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git/GitLab, virtualization/hypervisors, and cloud/VM environments.
  • Willing and able to come into our Centennial, CO office during core business hours (10am - 4pm local) Tuesday - Thursday.

Preferred:

  • Experience with performance/IO tools (e.g., FIO, ElBencho, SPEC, IO500).
  • Familiarity with Agile/iterative development methodologies.
  • Exposure to backup applications (Veeam, NetBackup, Cohesity), cluster orchestration, or scale-out systems.
  • Hands-on with Jira, Confluence, or equivalent tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, team-building, and mentoring ability.
  • Excellent problem solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Clear communicator able to influence stakeholders across engineering functions.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
