Senior Electrical Field Service Technician (NETA Certified)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Field Service Technician to perform testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and inspection of medium- and low-voltage electrical power systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in power distribution equipment, NETA testing procedures, and critical electrical infrastructure. This role requires a self-motivated professional capable of independently managing projects, interacting directly with customers, and delivering high-quality technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Testing & Commissioning

  • Perform acceptance, maintenance, and diagnostic testing of electrical power equipment ranging from 600V through 15kV.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with NETA, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, and customer-specific standards.
  • Perform field testing and commissioning of:
    • Medium-voltage switchgear
    • Circuit breakers
    • Protective relays
    • Power and distribution transformers
    • Instrument transformers
    • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
    • Motor Control Centers (MCC)
    • Low-voltage switchgear
    • Grounding systems
    • Substation equipment

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical system and equipment issues.
  • Support equipment energization, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Evaluate test results and identify equipment deficiencies or operational risks.
  • Provide technical recommendations for corrective actions and system improvements.

Project Management

  • Lead field testing and commissioning projects from initiation through completion.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Manage project schedules, labor hours, and budgets.
  • Participate in job walks, scope development, and proposal support activities.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare detailed technical reports documenting testing procedures, results, observations, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities and test data.
  • Communicate project updates and findings to customers and internal teams.

Customer Relations

  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for clients.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and project-related communications.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service throughout all project phases.

Qualifications

Required

  • NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing electrical testing and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems from 600V through 15kV.
  • Experience with protective relay testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends when required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electrical testing software.

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience in data centers, utility substations, industrial facilities, renewable energy facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of NERC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and OSHA electrical safety requirements.
  • Project leadership or supervisory experience.
