Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relays in substations and power systems. You will perform end-to-end relay testing utilizing DOBLE test equipment and protection testing software. This role involves developing and executing relay test plans, analyzing relay performance, and supporting commissioning activities for transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and other substation apparatus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relays in substations.
  • Execute relay test plans and assist in developing customized test procedures.
  • Analyze relay performance, fault records, and event reports.
  • Support commissioning activities involving transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot protection and control circuits in transmission and distribution substations.
  • Read and interpret protection schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
  • Support outage, energization, and commissioning activities.
  • Interface with customers and project teams during field execution.
  • Perform fieldwork locally and regionally with periodic overnight travel.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience testing and troubleshooting protective relays.
  • Experience with DOBLE test equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand relay one-lines, protection schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • NETA certification.
  • Familiarity with SEL relays and SCL.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience testing transformers, breakers, switchgear, and other apparatus.
  • Experience with data centers, distribution, transmission, protection & controls.

Work Environment

  • This position is primarily field-based with local travel, primarily around Fayetteville, GA.
  • You will occasionally travel to Nashville for safety training and NETA certification groups.
  • The role typically involves 5-10 hours of overtime per week. We offer benefits such as NETA certification training and bonuses for passing various levels, a company vehicle with a gas card, and allowances for boots, prescription safety goggles, and fire-retardant clothing.
  • Additionally, you will be provided with a company cellphone and laptop.
