Job description

Since 1973, JR Engineering has successfully served a variety of clients throughout Colorado. Areas of service include land development, surveying, surface transportation, water resources, and structural engineering as well as construction services in each of our major disciplines. Our in-house staff of talented engineers, surveyors, and support personnel enables us to respond quickly to demanding assignments, project schedules, and changing project scopes. With an annual Net Revenue of $18.5 million in 2025, JR Engineering currently has 100 employees with plans to grow to 120 employees over the next 3-5 years.

Job Summary:

The Client Manager for Land Development in Colorado Springs is charged with securing and managing projects and for the primary relationship with the client. The Client Manager will plan, organize, direct, and control engineering projects from concept through design and construction. The Client Manager also ensures project goals and objectives are accomplished and quality standards are met within established timeframes and budget constraints.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between clients and Production Leads throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring a clear understanding of client goals and needs and effectively translating them into project objectives, requirements, challenges, and changes for Production Leads.
  • Proactively develop and support new and existing client relationships. Market JR's full suite of professional services to new and existing clients. Foster partnerships with public and private clients, industry partners, and vendors.
  • Guide service implementation throughout project lifecycle to verify that project scope, performance standards, schedules, and quality expectations are met.
  • Manage client expectations and proactively identify, communicate, and resolve scope changes that may impact design direction, budget, or schedule. Prepare, negotiate, and issue change orders for additional services.
  • Collaborate with Project Accountant to support accurate invoicing, monitor accounts receivable, and assist with collections.
  • Prepare engineering proposals including preparation of scope and fee development, subconsultant coordination and negotiation, schedules, contracts, and forms. The Client Manager may engage Production Leads for targeted input and advice on proposal scope as needed to support proposal development.
  • Participate in pre-application meetings and client presentations.
  • Support the onboarding and integration of new clients and maintain direct contact for clients to support their projects. May utilize Production Leads to assist with meetings and providing communication of project details to clients.
  • Track quarterly marketing reports with proposal activity summary, active pursuits, and existing and proposed client connections.
  • Represent the Land Development group in internal marketing, strategic planning, and business development discussions.
  • Support client retention efforts by ensuring satisfaction and identifying future opportunities through client feedback.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with clients aligned with JR Engineering's strategic goals.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, public policy, major public infrastructure initiatives, and evolving local and regional regulations affecting public infrastructure and private development. Conduct client research and market intelligence gathering to stay ahead of upcoming project opportunities.
  • Monitor competitor activity and industry trends to inform pursuit strategies and improve win rates.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations, industry events, and business development activities to strengthen market presence and client engagement.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of mid- to senior-level engineering team members.
  • Reviews and may sign/seal engineering plans developed under their direction.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Business development experience preferred.
  • Client Manager II, III to have advanced experience in all client management aspects.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university or related discipline.
  • Valid Colorado PE license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience required.
