As a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d), you'll take ownership of the backend services behind our products and help shape their continuous evolution. You'll balance building new functionality with improving existing systems, always keeping reliability, scalability, and maintainability in mind. Working closely with Product and fellow engineers, you'll contribute to solutions that make a real impact for millions of users.

Your playing field with Gini
  • You design, develop, maintain, and operate backend services that power our products.
  • You build and extend APIs used by our banking and insurance partners.
  • You improve existing systems by making them more reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
  • You collaborate closely with Product, Mobile, AI, and other Engineering teams to deliver new features and technical improvements.
  • You contribute to architecture discussions and help shape the long-term evolution of our backend landscape.
  • You automate development, testing, and deployment processes through modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • You monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve the stability and performance of our services.
  • You perform code reviews, share your expertise, and support engineering best practices across the team.
  • You estimate implementation effort and contribute to technical planning and solution design.
  • You stay up to date with new technologies and bring pragmatic ideas to continuously improve our systems.
Skills to be successful
  • You have 5+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating backend systems.
  • You have excellent knowledge of Java, the JVM ecosystem, and Spring Boot.
  • You have experience designing and building RESTful APIs and distributed microservice architectures.
  • You have solid experience working with SQL databases; experience with Cassandra and/or Elasticsearch is a plus.
  • You have worked with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
  • You have a good understanding of application security, OAuth2, and Spring Security.
  • You have experience with asynchronous communication and messaging technologies such as AMQP (a plus).
  • You have a pragmatic engineering mindset with a strong focus on maintainability, reliability, and clean code.
  • You enjoy collaborating with others, sharing knowledge, and contributing to technical discussions.
  • You live in or around Munich and can join us in our office about once a week.
  • You communicate confidently in English.
