Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Application Engineer - Rack & Row Solutions provides technical sales support to Vertiv sales representatives, reseller partners, consulting engineers, and customers. This role serves as a key liaison between the sales organization and internal teams, including marketing, engineering, order management, and quality, delivering expert application and technical guidance. The Application Engineer supports remote technical sales efforts by providing detailed product information (operation, installation, and configuration), assisting with product sizing and selection, offering competitive cross-references, and supporting Configure-to-Order (CTO) and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide pre-sales quality technical application support to sales personnel and customers, escalating to more senior team members as necessary. Support the proper selection and sizing of products and accessories, accurately explain and discuss product features and applications, and support sales efforts and facilitate order capture rates.
  • Provide pre-sale applications for engineering support via phone, e-mail, and web to Local Vertiv Offices, reseller partners, and inside sales.
  • Assist in technical sales positioning on proposals and bid specifications through technical analysis and review of specifications, competition, and differentiating criteria.  Provide competitive evaluations to when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with sales personnel to identify requirements and provide quotations for custom configurations.
  • Interface with engineering, offer management, and order management teams as necessary to ensure appropriate application recommendations and support the sales quote and order submission process.
  • Provide occasional technical demonstration including product features, configuration steps, and firmware updates via remote sessions or factory visits and customer events. 
  • Contribute to the new product development process by providing voice of customer feedback to Offering management and engineering stakeholders.
  • Provide occasional support for the enhancement of web forms and tools, including company's public internet pages and internal configuration tools and forms.
  • Develop and sustain support for collateral and technical documentation for the department knowledge base.
  • Provide occasional technical sales support for e-Rate / Universal Service Fund leads and opportunities.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline required. An associate degree in engineering (or a related field), or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience, with at least 3 years of relevant work experience, may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. 
  • Applicable military certification with a minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may also be considered in lieu of the stated educational requirements. 
  • 2-4 years of experience in applications engineering, technical support (thermal management, IT systems, or power distribution), custom design support, or inside sales support. 
  • Required working knowledge of: 
    • Sales support processes for E-Rate/Universal Service Fund opportunities.
    • Thermal management solutions and HVAC principles.
    • Power distribution and UPS systems, including single-phase and three-phase systems, associated battery technologies, and technical sales support methods. 
    • Sales application of Vertiv network interface cards and associated monitoring software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated presentation abilities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED
