A NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) driver transports individuals who need medical-related transportation but do not require emergency services. They help passengers, including elderly or disabled individuals, reach medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, or other healthcare facilities safely. NEMT drivers are responsible for assisting passengers in and out of the vehicle, ensuring their comfort, and following safety protocols. They may work for private transportation companies, healthcare providers, or government agencies.
As a NEMT Driver, your typical day involves picking up clients from their homes or care facilities and safely transporting them to medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, or treatment facilities. You'll assist passengers—sometimes including those using wheelchairs or with limited mobility—in and out of the vehicle, ensure their comfort, and keep accurate records of each trip. Communication with dispatchers and healthcare providers is common to confirm schedules and address any special needs. The work is rewarding but fast-paced, and strong attention to detail and safety is essential throughout your day.
To thrive as a NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance, often accompanied by CPR/First Aid certification. Drivers typically use GPS navigation systems, dispatch software, and may need to record trip details using mobile apps or logbooks. Exceptional customer service, patience, and effective communication are valued soft skills, especially when assisting individuals with mobility needs. These capabilities ensure safe, timely, and compassionate transportation for passengers requiring non-emergency medical services.

Wall Connections is currently seeking part-time (PRN) Drivers for our non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services in the Galax, Virginia area. PRN means "as needed" with no set or guaranteed hours and will NOT be full time.
Shifts: Daytime but willing to be flexible with start and/or end times as needed for the communities.
Job Duties:
· Operate a company motor vehicle to transport individuals who require assistance with transportation needs
· Ensure the motor vehicle is safely maintained, supplied, and cleaned thoroughly
· Communicate and document arrangements surrounding appointments
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Must be at least 21 yrs of age and have an active driver’s license with acceptable driving record that meets the following guidelines:
· Nationwide Criminal Background check free of barrier crimes
· Drug test per DOT standards and acceptance of zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy
· Ability to complete required trainings within 90 days of hire
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
