Neighbor information

What are neighbors in the context of job platforms or community apps?

In the context of job platforms or community apps, 'Neighbors' typically refers to local individuals who offer to help others in their community with various tasks or services, such as pet sitting, lawn care, or running errands. These individuals are not formal employees but rather trusted community members who can be hired for one-time or recurring tasks. Platforms like Nextdoor and TaskRabbit facilitate these connections, making it easy for neighbors to find help or offer their skills to others living nearby.

What is a neighbor?

A Neighbor job typically involves providing support, assistance, or community engagement to those living nearby. This could include helping with errands, house sitting, pet care, or offering a sense of companionship. The role varies based on the needs of the community and the agreement between neighbors. It fosters a sense of connection and support within a local area.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for a neighbor role in a community-based service platform?

As a Neighbor in a community-based service platform, you are typically responsible for providing support, assistance, or resources to fellow community members, such as offering help with errands, sharing local information, or assisting with small tasks. The role often involves clear communication, reliability, and a willingness to engage positively with others in your area. You may collaborate with platform coordinators or other Neighbors to organize events, solve community issues, or promote a safe, friendly environment. This position can offer personal fulfillment and opportunities to build local connections, though it may also require balancing your own time commitments and respecting neighbors’ privacy.

What is the difference between Neighbor vs Courier?

AspectNeighborCourier
Required CredentialsNone or minimal; background checks may be requiredDriver's license; sometimes special certifications for certain deliveries
Work EnvironmentResidential or commercial properties; flexible hoursOn the road; delivery routes; often scheduled shifts
Employer & Industry UsageGig economy, peer-to-peer platforms, local servicesLogistics, shipping, e-commerce companies
Common Search & Comparison IntentLooking for local delivery or task servicesSeeking employment or services related to package delivery

Both Neighbor and Courier roles involve delivery and logistics, but Neighbor typically refers to local, peer-to-peer tasks often facilitated by gig platforms, with minimal credentials required. Couriers usually work for companies, require driving credentials, and operate on scheduled routes. Understanding these differences helps job seekers and users find the right role or service for their needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neighbor, and why are they important?

This is not a recognized professional occupation, so there are no formal core skills or qualifications required for the role of Neighbor. There are also no specific technical tools, certifications, or systems typically used. While being friendly, respectful, and communicative are valued traits in a neighborly context, these are not considered professional soft skills for employment. Such qualities contribute to positive community relations but do not align with real-world employment criteria.

Job description

ABOUT PROMETHEUS

Founded in 1965, Prometheus is the largest privately held owner of apartments in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a portfolio of over 13,000 apartments in the Silicon Valley, Portland, and Seattle regions. We invest in real estate long-term and the focus on enduring quality drives every element of what we do - from our selection of locations to design decisions, reinvestments into our Neighborhoods and our operating strategy.

We are proud to be a Certified B Corporation, part of a group of companies that meets the highest standards for using business as a force for good. We have more than 500 Prometheans, and have a home office in San Mateo, with satellite offices in Portland, Oregon, and in the Bay Area. We are a vertically integrated company with four main core competencies in-house: acquisitions/investments, development, value-add renovations, and operations/property management. Prometheus has a long history of award-winning approaches to what we do, receiving over 100 awards for design and excellence including Fortune Magazine’s list of 100 Best Small & Medium Companies, the 100 Best Workplaces for Women and Best Places to Work in the Bay Area.

OUR PURPOSE

We are focused on Good Living for the Greater Good. This means providing a true sense of home and belonging for our Neighbors and Prometheans and giving our time and resources to bring positive change locally and beyond. It also means supporting you in your career goals with the very best working experience, and that starts with us having fun in the work we do together.

YOUR ROLE AND IMPACT

Some companies call them “Assistant Property Managers” or "Assistant Business Managers", but at Prometheus our Leasing & Experience Managers do so much more. As a Leasing & Experience Manager, your role is a constant blend of:

  • Neighbor Relations - If you love helping people, building relationships, planning events, and providing five-star quality customer service than this position is for you. You will present a professional approach to remedy any Neighbor concerns and follow-up as necessary to ensure the Ultimate Neighbor Experience.
  • Leasing Activities - You're already a leasing All-Star and in this position, you will assist other Neighbor Ambassadors with closing. Additionally, you will help create strategic sales and marketing programs to maximize rental activity, developing an intimate knowledge of market conditions.
  • Daily Operations - You will take a proactive role in the preparation and maintenance of Neighbor profiles. You'll assist with pricing, concessions, occupancy reporting, and collections.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities - You will supervise the leasing team, provide general training & development, and set goals & celebrate milestones. We love to have fun while we work and celebrate each other!

HERE'S MORE OF THE NITTY-GRITTY:

  • Working Weekends - Our Neighborhoods are busiest on the weekends, so that's when we need you there. Your schedule will include regular days off that fall between Monday through Friday. Of course, we still want you to take vacation time, including weekends, and come back refreshed and relaxed. We offer great vacation perks, including your birthday!
  • Your Experience - Prometheans come from all walks of life and from all over the globe. We’re also very diverse in that we hire talent with experience in other industries and who bring different skill sets and ideas to our company. You should bring a passion for working in a customer service, sales and marketing environment, and have at least two years' experience in a leasing position.
  • Your Education - A Bachelor’s degree is preferred and a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
