Intermediate Maintenance Aircraft Structural Mechanic II performs repairs/maintenance on T-6B components, such as inspection, operational test, removal, replacement, repair, troubleshooting, balancing, preservation, and modification of aircraft components. Applies technical knowledge and experience to solve problems and to troubleshoot and repair component discrepancies. Must be able to read, write, and interpret instructions, technical manuals, and/or directives necessary for the accomplishment of job assignment. Must be able to exercise judgment in determining work sequence, selecting tools, and testing requirements. Most of the workload entails sheet metal repairs. Work is inspected and reviewed for compliance with approved practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform tasks in accordance with instructions, applicable technical data, manuals, and

directives.

• Identifies, selects, and works with aircraft structural repair materials such as metals, fasteners,

and common hardware

• Removes, reinstalls, repairs, fabricates, or replaces defective parts on all components.
• Most of the work consists of sheet metal repairs to components such as flight controls, stabilizers, doors, and canopy assemblies.
• Ensure that all aircraft parts /components received for repair are properly documented by

a valid repair order, ensuring repaired, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly tagged/identified, turned in, and/or disposed of as required.

• Performs damage repairs and minor structural modifications under the direction of a higher-rated structural mechanic.
• Manufactures aircraft structural parts, components, and assemblies using identical parts,

drawings and templates in accordance with recommended procedures and/or verbal instruction.

• Verifies discrepancy before repairs begin.
• Evaluates components and documents any discrepancies to identify methods of repair and/or replacement.
• Identifies and orders necessary parts, materials, and tooling requirements.
• Performs structural repair maintenance on related maintenance support equipment such as

maintenance stands and GSE equipment.

• Comply with and follow established standards of workmanship, safety, quality, and production.
• Uses technical data, maintenance instructions, MRC's, drawings, sketches, and other related maintenance manuals as required in conjunction with and as related to aircraft structural maintenance.
• Works with and repairs plastic components, and performs fiberglass repair
• Fabricates aircraft (metal) tube assemblies as required.
• Uses, inspects, and maintains common metalworking tools and equipment.
• Performs aircraft preservation / depreservation as required.
• Assist in performing weight and balance as required
• May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
• Completes and/or assists in the completion of applicable maintenance forms as required.
• Operates ground support equipment as required.
• Required to be an Aircraft Handler and brake rider certified
• May be required to be Plane Captain certified and perform pre-flight/post-flight/
• turnaround/daily inspections and servicing when required.
• Perform aircraft jacking and hoisting operations as required.
• Identifies and treats corrosion.
• Utilize manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, Maintenance Engineering Directives, Maintenance Requirement Cards, Technical Directives, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts, and other applicable data/publications to replace, repair, test, modify, and rebuild aircraft components.
• May be required to be NDI qualified/certified for magnetic particle, dye penetrate, or eddy

current inspection operations.

• Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, and Tool Control Programs.
• Comply with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable

to the contract, facilities, and job assignment.

• Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required for the training of personnel in the same or lesser grade classifications.
• Demonstrates job procedures and conducts on-the-job training.
• Assist as directed to ensure the safety, security, and preservation of government/company-owned equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required, such as removing and/or installing panels, flaps,
• flight controls, seats, etc.
• Participates in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of spaces and facilities.
• Deals with the customer in a courteous, professional, and effective manner
• Provides own hand tools as required.
• Ensure compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations, such as applicable to the contract, site, and work center.

CLASSIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:

Must possess a high degree of knowledge/expertise in aircraft maintenance, including knowledge and experience on T-34C or similar aircraft. Must have in-depth knowledge of applicable technical manuals, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, blueprints, maintenance forms, and continuous inspection procedures. Ability to organize and plan work. Must possess mathematical skills. Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language, and follow and administer verbal and written instructions. Requires the ability to work without direct supervision. Must have a strong background in sheet metal repair. Requires the ability to work with or without direct supervision.

EDUCATION / LICENSES:

Satisfactory completion of U. S. Armed Forces aircraft structural repair courses or equivalent. F.A.A. Airframe license preferred but not required. Graduation from high school or GED required. Must be able to meet any government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an aircraft structural mechanic.

Must be familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and normal safety requirements. Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Aircraft ground servicing equipment, including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks and hoists, test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time. Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, lifting, pushing, or pulling weight up to 70 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to the normal range.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop-type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individuals to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, direct sun, etc. May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent. Must properly wear personal protective equipment as required. Will be required to work with hazardous materials.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, working at heights on or around aircraft, and machinery. Exposure to hazards associated with the use of hazardous materials, performing sheet metal repairs, working in the vicinity of protruding components such as propellers, exhaust stacks, static wicks, flaps, doors, antennas, etc.

WORK LOCATION:

Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line. May require travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.
