What is an NCG in the workplace?

NCGs, or New College Graduates, refer to individuals who have recently completed their undergraduate or graduate degrees and are entering the workforce for the first time. Many companies have NCG programs designed to help these new hires transition smoothly from academic life to professional roles. These programs often include onboarding, mentorship, and training to build skills and integrate NCGs into the company culture. NCGs are valued for their fresh perspectives, up-to-date knowledge, and eagerness to learn. Employers often recruit NCGs to nurture talent and develop future leaders within the organization.

What are common challenges new college graduates face when transitioning into their first professional role, and how can they overcome them?

As a new college graduate (NCG), one common challenge is adapting to the pace and expectations of the professional work environment, which often differs significantly from academic settings. NCGs may also find it challenging to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experience levels. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to seek feedback regularly, participate in team meetings, and take initiative in learning about the company's tools and processes. Many organizations offer mentorship programs or onboarding sessions specifically designed to support NCGs during this transition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an NCG in a professional role, and why are they important?

To thrive as an NCG, you typically need a relevant degree in your field, foundational technical knowledge, and a willingness to learn. Familiarity with industry-specific software, programming languages, or project management tools is often expected depending on the job function. Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help NCGs stand out as they integrate into new teams and projects. These skills and qualities enable NCGs to quickly contribute, grow professionally, and adapt to the dynamic demands of the workplace.

Bartender: Neighbor's Bar at NCG Cinema

Neighborhood Cinema

Kingsport, TN • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 15 days ago

Job description

About Neighbor's Bar

Neighbor's Bar is the full-service lobby bar at NCG Cinemas – Kingsport. We're not your average concession stand — we offer handcrafted cocktails, batched cocktails, frozen drinks, mocktails, dirty sodas, beer, and wine in a high-energy, guest-first environment. Every shift brings a new crowd of moviegoers ready to kick off their night, and we want bartenders who bring the energy to match.

This is a fast-paced, people-forward role. If you love making drinks, love talking to people, and love the idea of working in one of Kingsport's most unique bar settings — we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Craft and serve cocktails, frozen drinks, mocktails, beer, and wine to guests at the bar
  • Actively engage guests approaching the lobby — suggestively sell drinks and hot food before they even reach the counter
  • Deliver drinks and food to the hot food pickup area as needed during your shift
  • Scan IDs using the provided ID scanner at every alcohol transaction — no exceptions
  • Operate the Vista POS system accurately for all transactions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout your shift
  • Open and/or close the bar following established procedures
  • Complete weekly maintenance tasks including equipment cleaning and sanitizing
  • Assist with weekly inventory counts as directed by management
  • Communicate supply needs, equipment issues, or guest concerns to management

What We're Looking For

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Outgoing, confident, and guest-focused — you don't wait for guests to come to you
  • Prior bartending or bar service experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment during show rushes and busy lobby periods
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and working evenings and weekends
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to responsible alcohol service

Certification Requirements

All bartenders complete required certifications during the first two days of employment, before performing any bartending shifts.

  • Responsible Alcohol Service certification (Rserving) — completed on company time, paid for by Neighbors Bar

Certifications must remain current throughout employment. No certification = no shift.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly wage plus tips
  • Varied shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays — aligned with theater showtimes
  • A one-of-a-kind work environment at NCG Cinemas
  • A growing bar program with room to develop your craft
  • Supportive team and clear expectations from day one
  • Free movies — enjoy the full NCG Cinemas experience on us
  • Discounts on concessions

How to Apply

Apply directly through Indeed or stop in and introduce yourself. We review applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to schedule an interview.

NCG Cinemas is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels.
