Job description

JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician I to apply standard inspection procedures on ongoing activities, in the state of North Carolina, during and after construction for quality, safety and conformance to plans and specifications. Statewide opportunities available.
Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.
This position is available in multiple locations within North Carolina and can be discussed with the hiring manager during an interview.
Higher level Inspector positions are also available in the Western NC and surrounding communities. Qualified candidates with extensive experience in inspection and regulatory compliance are encouraged to apply. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection of contractor's operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Performs routine material testing
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gathers and maintains record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's drug screening process, thereafter subject to random and for cause drug and alcohol testing.

Required Experience
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or two years equivalent CEI experience.
  • Active driver's license
  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • Construction inspection experience on NCDOT projects preferred

Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
