Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI) is a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art research facility that is dedicated to expanding the University's research capacity, particularly in the biomedical and biotechnology areas. The BBRI is a broad based multi-disciplinary research and training institute. The mission of the BBRI is to conduct multidisciplinary and inter-institutional research focused on health issues that disproportionately affect minority and underserved groups while providing students with research experiences that will enhance their access to careers in the biomedical sciences.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Julius L. Chambers Biomedical and Biotechnological Research Institute (JLC-BBRI) invites applicants to apply to a tenure track faculty position (Assistant or Associate level) in conjunction with the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Department (BBSD). The ideal candidate will be able to establish an extramurally funded research program in their area of specialization that will support research in the JLC-BBRI and provide training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. The institute's current focal research program includes neuroscience, cancer biology, microbiology, and nutritional science. Because this appointment is in collaboration with the BBSD, in addition to the aforementioned research responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to excel as an educator teaching core and elective courses in biological and biomedical sciences to undergraduate and graduate students. Moreover, the candidate is expected to participate in institute, departmental, college, and university service as well as professional service.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent research and analytical skills as evidenced by postdoctoral experience (at least 3 years), publication, and grants skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
  • Strong knowledge base in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or biological chemistry
  • Appropriate experience in teaching university biology courses, especially in the area of cell biology, molecular biology, and biological chemistry

The successful candidate will be required to: 1.) teach core and elective courses in biological and biomedical sciences to undergraduate and graduate students; 2.) establish an extramurally funded research program in their area of specialization that will support research in the JLC-BBRI and provide training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students; 3.) provide academic and career advising to students; and 4.) serve on departmental, college, university committees as appropriate.
Minimum Education/Experience
Earned doctoral degree in biological sciences or related discipline with 3 (three) years of postdoctoral experience.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Qualifications for candidate include an earned doctoral degree in biological sciences or related discipline with 3 (three) years of postdoctoral experience.
