Description
The Assistant Sports Information Director serves in a support role to the Sports Information Director in working with external constituents in the media and social media areas for all varsity intercollegiate athletic activities. Under the direction of the Sports Information Director, the Assistant Sports Information Director will disseminate timely information to maximize media and public visibility for the department of athletics and oversee a robust social media portfolio to promote the Husson University athletics brand.
The Assistant Sports Information Director must have the ability to interact effectively and develop positive relationships with coaches, administrators, student-athletes, student workers and media members. The successful candidate is responsible for adhering to all governing procedures and regulations of the University, the athletic department, our affiliated athletic conferences, and the NCAA.
Example of Duties
  • Serve as the primary strategic communications contact for assigned sports, and assist with other sports as needed
  • Create, manage and oversee content (photography, videography and graphics) to enhance engagement with the Husson University athletics social media portfolio
  • Create news and feature story ideas for media and the school's official athletic department website hussoneagles.com to promote Husson's 22-sport intercollegiate athletics program
  • Assist with day-to-day strategic communications within the department
  • Create graphics and video for upcoming contests and athletic events
  • Assist with media training for coaches and student-athletes
  • Assist in the supervision of student staff
  • Assist with home event game management and promotions
  • Keep statistics and maintain program records
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Information, Executive Director of Athletics.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Experience: A minimum of one year experience in working in a collegiate sports athletics communications (can include student worker experience)
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
  • Excellent communication, writing, media relations and technical skills are required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and writing abilities, coupled with the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies within a varied community
  • Proficiency in supervising and training staff members, encompassing the organization, prioritization, and scheduling of work tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Creative Suite and video editing software are required
  • Experience with various statistical programs (i.e. Presto, Stat Crew NCAA Live States and/or Dak Stats) is required
  • Expertise in managing various social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat
  • Experience with Sidearm website management
  • Available to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends, including occasional travel with teams for selected away contests and championships
  • Expertise in working with presto stats, statcrew and NCAA Live Stats
  • Working knowledge of Hudl's production truck streaming platform
