General Description
The purpose of this position is to assist with the creation of in-season and out-of-season strength and conditioning programs for all University of Montevallo student-athletes. The position may have the opportunity to teach in the College of Education and Human Development.
Essential Job Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning with the design and implementation of basic fitness, nutrition and strength and conditioning programs for student athletes.
2. Work with coaching staff to create sport-specific team strength and conditioning programs.
3. Maintain records to assess the strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
4. Manage and maintain the upkeep of the weight room and equipment.
5. Supervise and evaluate Graduate Assistants.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
7. May be asked to fulfill the duties (lecture, lab, assess, grade, etc.) involved in teaching two courses per academic term from various Exercise Science offerings, including but not limited to Biomechanics, Science of Strength and Conditioning, and Program Design.
8. May be asked to serve as an academic advisor for students in the College of Education and Human Development.
The University of Montevallo is an NCAA DII institution located in central Alabama. The athletics program fields 19 varsity teams.
Additional Duties
Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned. The individual holding this position will serve as a representative of the University and, as such, shall promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must possess NSCA CSCS certification and provide documentation.
  • Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified, and provide documentation.
  • Previous experience at the collegiate level strongly recommended.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
  • Demonstration of good communication skills, both written and verbal, with students, parents, campus community and other personnel.

The educational requirement for this position is: Master's degree from a nationally accredited university/college in exercise science or related field required.

This position requires: Two (2) years of college strength and conditioning experience.

Licenses, Certification or Registrations
  • NSCA CSCS and/or CSCCa SCCC, and provide documentation.
  • Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified, and provide documentation.
  • Must successfully complete NCAA Coaches Modules annually.
