About This Role

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Learning Specialist, which is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of student-athletes. This includes one-on-one tutoring and skill building, evaluating, and monitoring academic plans for students, assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills and self-awareness, providing appropriate referrals to the Student Access Center.
  • Work with other learning specialists to level and support all student athletes who level into the strategic learning program
  • Provide supervision and oversight for the post-graduate interns and oversee their overall training and daily responsibilities. Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to support interns' holistic professional and personal development.
  • Provide supervision and oversight for the coordination of the Strategic Tutor Program. Assist with the recruitment, hiring and training of strategic tutors; assist with facilitation of payroll and other HR processes. Work in tandem with Tutor Coordinator to determine a comprehensive support schedule for tutorial program.
  • Collaborate with other intern supervisors in the department to create holistic development throughout their time in the internship program
  • Provide leadership and assistance with the Strategic Learning program services and resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in special education, educational psychology, academic advising, college student development, curriculum/instruction, or closely related field
  • Two years working full-time as a learning specialist or in a closely related field
    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    --Excellent written and oral communication skills, and computer proficiency
    --Excellent organizational skills
    --Some evening and weekend hours required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic placement testing/learning assessments and interpretation of disability documentation
  • Experience using Teamworks Academics, Peoplesoft, or other NCAA/University learning software.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and experience working with NCAA student-athletes with documented learning disabilities
  • Supervisory experience of student or postgraduate intern staff or strategic tutoring program
