Position Title:
High School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach
Reports To:
Student Activities Director and Head Girls Basketball Coach
Position Summary
The High School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive basketball program that emphasizes academic achievement, character development, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. The Assistant Coach supports all aspects of the program while helping student-athletes maximize their athletic and personal potential.
The Assistant Coach is expected to promote a positive and inclusive team culture while supporting the mission and values of Brush High School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Teach and reinforce basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive concepts, and individual skill development.
  • Assist with scouting, game preparation, and player evaluations.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team functions.
  • Promote academic success, positive behavior, and leadership among student-athletes.
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance, and organization.
  • Ensure compliance with district, league, and state athletic regulations.
  • Model and promote sportsmanship, integrity, and ethical behavior.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development.
  • Support off-season skill development and program-building activities as approved by the Athletic Department.
  • Encourage participation in multiple sports and activities when appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Student Activities Director.

Qualifications
  • Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Ability to motivate and positively influence high school student-athletes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Must meet all district and state certification requirements (CPR, First Aid, coaching certifications, etc.).

Working Conditions
  • Seasonal position requiring evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • Primarily conducted in an indoor gymnasium environment.
