Position: Deputy Press Secretary
Location: Raleigh, NC
Salary: $6,000/month

Cooper for North Carolina is hiring a dedicated, organized, and driven Deputy Press Secretary to join our growing communications team. This is an opportunity to join a top-tier Senate race and help send Roy Cooper to the U.S. Senate. This is a full-time, in-person, paid position that is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. 

The Deputy Press Secretary will be responsible for outreach to community and constituency media and other administrative duties and projects. This role will also provide assistance with staffing campaign events and drafting communications materials as assigned. The ideal candidate will be energetic with great attention to detail and a superior ability to multitask. 

Qualifications
  • 1 previous cycle of campaign experience or 1-3 years of experience in relevant work including political communications or journalism. 
  • A high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • North Carolina ties and proficiency in Spanish are a plus.
Responsibilities include
  • Coordinate with, pitch stories to and respond to inquiries from community and constituency media outlets. 
  • Assist with drafting responses to media inquiries. 
  • Draft press releases, memos, media advisories, and other materials as needed.
  • Support logistics for campaign events, including recruiting press, preparing materials, staffing and coordinating with reporters.
Compensation
  • Salary: $6,000 per month
  • Health care premium covered by campaign.
Hours: Full-time position. This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and point in the cycle, and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle.
