DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of this position is to provide health care including medical diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of a physician. The Physician Extender II (PE II) will provide health services in all health department programs as described in program policies and procedures
DUTIES
The employee will act as a consultant to nursing, lab, social works, students and administration. Work will be supervised by their supervising Physician and the agency's director of nursing. The employee will on occasion serve as a preceptor to other employees. The PE II will keep abreast of the changing scope of medical and public health practice, provide in-service training to staff, i.e. CPR training. The PE II will serve as a member of the agency investigating team in the event of a disease outbreak and/or staffing of emergency shelters. Other duties as directed by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Preferred experience in pediatrics, women's health, family planning and communicable disease. Prefer one year of experience as a public health FNP/PA or one (1) year experience providing direct patient care in a primary care setting.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from a Masters Level Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program approved by the NC Joint Subcommittee. Licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant.

  • Certified in basic CPR life support.

Health
We offer the NC State Health Plan. The provider is Aetna Medical Insurance. Employee has the option to elect to purchase or PlusPlan (70/30 ) or the ProPlan (80/20 ).
Voluntary Plans
Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through UNUM, Guardian, Mutual of Omaha and Aflac. These include Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans, Dental, and Vision plans. In addition we offer Short-term disability and FSA (Flex Spending Account).
Life Insurance
The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance.
Retirement
We participate on the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account.
401(k) and 457 are supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower.
Vacation Leave
Employees accrue annual leave monthly and may use accrued leave upon approval after the probationary period is completed. Years of service transferred from eligible NC Governmental Agencies (written documentation required) and the employee's work schedule are used to determine the rate of earning.
Petty Leave
Employees earn fourteen (14) hours per calendar year. May use in increments of 15 minutes. Leave is pro-rated based as of date of hire in the first calendar year of employment. Petty leave must be used within the calendar year.
Longevity Pay
The County offers longevity pay to employees with 5 years of continuous service.
