Job description

United Security Services Inc. offers many opportunities for career development & progression. We are security professionals with hospitality focused training. Our security team thrives on providing exceptional customer service, by maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for guests & fellow facility personnel. We watch over life & property, perform general crowd & access control duties. We monitor entrances/exits, freight loading docks & doors and rove assigned areas within our worksite locations. Duties include but are not limited to; compliance with specific post instructions, credential checking, roving foot patrols to monitor specific areas & other duties that may be required by Management.

This position is part-time, on call, meaning we have work available when there are events we are staffing at facilities such as McCormick Place, Navy Pier, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, just to name a few. This is not a full-time position and does not guarantee a set number of hours or assignments. You will be required to work weekends and holidays.

Post orders may also include Ticket Taking, Ushering, Guest Services, Special Services, Screening, Bag Checking and Asset Protection.

Successful candidates must:

  • Have a current Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) and 20-hour Training Certificate
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Excellent communication skills, (clear and effective oral & written skills)
  • Professional presentation, appearance reflecting customer service skills
  • Authorization to work in the US if applicable.
  • Pass a criminal background check/random drug test
  • Adhere to assigned schedules and be punctual
  • Be able to climb stairs, stand and or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to react appropriately in emergency situations
  • Have the skills in operating radios for communications.
  • Observes, logs and reports unusual, dangerous or illegal activities, incidents or unauthorized individuals at an assigned site.
  • Act to enforce client & facility regulations and directives for the site pertaining to exhibitors, guests, organizers personnel, visitors, and premises.
  • As assigned, may rove on foot patrols for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked entrances/exits, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons.
  • This position does not guarantee a set work schedule or number of hours.

Job details include but are not limited to:

    • Provides a courteous, respectful and pleasant interaction with each client, employee and visitor; presents a good image of the client and USSC.
    • Provides direction and assistance to event attendees.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Knowledgeable and capable of executing post-specific instructions as provided by client, Supervisor or Event Manager.
    • Flexible to event location or order changes.
    • Maintain a general knowledge about overall event space to include entrances and exits, first aid locations, fire extinguishers, etc..
    • Maintain a reasonable understanding of the event to assist attendees with basic customer service.
    • Depending upon assignment may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
    • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
