SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The City of San Marcos' Parks and Recreation Department is seeking new volunteers to participate in the Nature Center Docent program at the Jack's Pond Nature Center!
If you are at least 18 years old, interested in nature, want to help educate visitors about local habitat (community) and want to volunteer, consider becoming a docent at Jack's Pond Nature Center.
Jack's Pond Nature Center is a renovated barn near Cal State San Marcos where guests get to explore 10 themed rooms that offer activities and information about local flora and fauna. As a Nature Center Docent, you would be responsible (at least one day a month) to oversee the nature center Sundays from 10am- 1pm and other duties as assigned. You would get to do nature-inspired activities and learn about San Marcos Nature along with our visitors. Docents can also be involved in city related events, school field trips to the nature center, and so much more!

QUALIFICATIONS
How to Become a Nature Center Volunteer:
  • Complete and submit online application.
  • Qualified and invited applicants will be invited to participate in an interview process .
  • Selected volunteers will go through a background check and pre-volunteer physical.
Requirements:
  • At least 18 years of age at time of volunteer assignment
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license, Class C, with satisfactory driving record
  • Available for consistent, ongoing volunteer commitment
  • Enjoys working with the public and sharing your passion for nature and recreation with the community
  • Available to volunteer in person on Sundays from 10am-1pm. Jack's Pond Nature Center is located at Jack's Pond Park at 986 La Moree Road, San Marcos.
