In 1990, a small group of gentlemen, who loved hunting and the outdoors, purchased the site as an investment and family retreat. The first venture undertaken on the site was the planting of four million slash pines, an effort that they hoped would lead to financial gain. With the first building constructed in 1998 (Cypress House), the property was then opened for the first upland bird hunt and turkey season. It was then that the owners realized the true calling for this property, and the Gilchrist Club was established in 1999.

Summary/Objective

The Guide provides general support for the Gilchrist operations. The Guide will be responsible for the overall safety and satisfaction of guest experience, preparation, and execution of hunts, providing support to the facility in caring for animals, upkeep of the facility, equipment, and land maintenance. The position requires a mechanical aptitude, and experience using power tools and land equipment for cleaning, maintenance, and repair of the facility. The position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.

Essential Functions

  • Flexibility in hours and days of work.
  • Acts with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Responsible for the safety and satisfaction of the guest experience.
  • Must be able to administer first aid.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts hunting trips for individuals and groups; plans itinerary for hunting trips applying knowledge of the area to determine best routes for the optimal guest experience.
  • Must be familiar and comfortable with firearms; must be able to instruct guests on the proper use of firearms.
  • Ability to instruct guests on hunting procedures and laws to ensure compliance.
  • Arranges for transportation for guest, equipment, and supplies for hunts.
  • Attend to all animals and their housing.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of all facility equipment, land maintenance equipment, and maintenance of wildlife/domestic animals.
  • Ability to drive and travel as required to perform errands.

Work Environment

This position operates indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. The position requires a mechanical aptitude, and experience using power tools and land equipment for cleaning, maintenance, and repair of the facility. The position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.

Required Education and Experience

0 โ€“ 3 years of experience required.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Experience in facility maintenance preferred.
  • Certified in Hunter and safety
