POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper Assistant (Summer)

LOCATION/DEPT: Wonderland Camp and Conference Center

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: TFT

MISSION

The Salvation Army Wonderland Camp and Conference Center exists to support the ministry of the Salvation Army by providing the opportunity to experience Christ through focused programs in a natural, safe, camp conference environment.

OUTCOMES

Assist on camp as needed in the maintenance and housekeeping areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist with grounds-keeping requirements.
  2. Assist with custodial work.
  3. Assist with minor carpentry, log splitting, refuse removal, painting, etc.
  4. Assist with housekeeping requirements when needed.
  5. All other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Grounds and Land Stewardship Supervisor.

In contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of the Army and itsmission.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS

Supervises one full-time worker and any seasonal workers as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience and aptitude for mechanical work and general construction.
  • Experience with tools and maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to accept authority.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • In agreement with the philosophy, goals and objectives of The Salvation Army Wonderland Camp and Conference Center.
  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Maintenance Manager informed on all critical issues related to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light to heavy physical work and must be able to lift up to 100lbs. on a regular basis.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use grounds keeping equipment and be able to operate a vehicle.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office and outdoor environment with a low to high noise level.
  • May work in inclement weather.
