POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a technical and driven Sr Natural Gas Trader who is independent, results-oriented, self-motivated and wants to be part of a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will have experience scheduling and trading gas in the deregulated market - wholesale experience is a plus. This position is responsible for trading energy commodities, options, heat rates, and energy products in various markets. The tenure of trade ranges from intraday through 5 years. Individuals apply a high level of competency in trading strategies, physical market knowledge, regulatory market design, and competitive marketplace profile. Reporting to the Head of Trading, the role requires a self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure collaboratively with a team of highly analytical and quantitative talent. The Sr Gas Trader takes full responsibility over our Gas Trading and will be on point for the underlying drives causing prices to change and all characteristics of the different systems and methodologies in place.
This position is in Houston and is an onsite role. The ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to the Houston office location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As part of the wholesale desk enabling the growth of HEUH's business, this role will work and optimize our Gas portfolio in order to capture all trading opportunities and monitor risk.
  • Transact physical gas, transport, storage, and financial basis
  • Identify trading opportunities resulting from our books, the Sales-Trading flow or market movements.
  • Quote competitive prices on a daily basis to the sales-trading team.
  • Work together with Mid-office for a daily reconciliation and with Risk for updated VAR monitoring.
  • Stay updated on market activity through direct engagement with market participants such as traders, brokers and platforms.
  • Trade natural gas on a daily, monthly, and term basis to optimize system performance and capture locational and time spreads.
  • Utilize fundamental market analysis to manage transportation and storage hedges, maximizing revenue while aligning with risk appetite.
  • Develop quantitative and fundamental view of relevant gas markets along the entire curve.
  • Optimize the value of the US portfolio in the long-/mid- and short-term markets; develop trade recommendations that enhance portfolio returns.
  • Work closely with originators for new deal origination, structuring, and pricing.
  • Work closely with Supply Team to identify all cross-commodity opportunities and risks.
  • Consistently improve modelling tools and optimization approach, actively shaping the set-up of portfolio management infrastructure and procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to ensure efficient pipeline operations and identify new marketing opportunities.
  • Provide market intelligence and insights to senior management for planning and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with business development and marketing teams to expand system capabilities and design trading strategies that complement growth initiatives.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor strategies, and emerging trends to inform commercial decisions.
  • Create and deliver Supply related management presentations, contract executions and project management activities focused on Gas Trading.
  • Provide timely reports on trading activities, market conditions, and profit/loss analysis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in natural gas trading, with expertise in managing term physical and financial positions related to transportation and storage.
  • Bachelor's in Business, Finance, Economics or any hard science quantitative. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Prior Gas Trading experience with expertise in fundamental analysis, risk management, and market pricing.
  • Experience pricing structured, non-standard contracts in energy markets.
  • Strong knowledge of gas fundamentals and market rules/structure.
  • Solid P&L experience from a trading background as this role will be looking at the markets, developing a point of view and assessing the company's VaR.
  • Experience managing long-term contracts with a variety of customers and trading partners.
  • Experience in deregulated electricity markets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills coupled with deep analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to assess mathematical derivative pricing models within the context of real-world market conditions.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to process and interpret complex market data.
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving and multitasking.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic is essential.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Deadline-oriented with an ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Apps: Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in trading platforms and financial modeling tools used by energy markets (e.g., Dayzer)
  • Experience with ETRM systems.

COMPENSATION: $170,000 - $205,000 salary
