Position Specific Description

Senior Natural Gas Trader will lead trading activities in various markets, mentor traders and develop advanced trading strategies.  This role requires a deep understanding of market dynamics, risk management, and strategic decision- making. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement advanced trading strategies to enhance profitability.
  • Conduct in depth market analysis to guide trading decisions. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to align strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Manage risk exposure by working with Financial desk on hedging techniques.
  • Build commercial relationships with supplier, customer and pipeline representatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal controls. 
  • Assists in coaching and guiding less experienced team members, fostering their professional growth.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. In lieu of a degree, will consider a combination of education and related experience in natural gas trading or scheduling totaling four (4) years. Experience in lieu of education is addition to experience requirements.
  • At least 4 years of experience directly in the trading of natural gas. Experience in the Rockies or Midcontinent preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Endur, a plus.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

  • Able to demonstrate and apply excellent oral and written communication skills in English, utilizing clear and concise language.
  • Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate good time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to use PC software proficiently, including software for data analytics and advanced spreadsheets
  • Able to simultaneously work on multiple tasks within tight time deadlines.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, and to take all required training courses in a timely fashion.
  • Able to consistently demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the Company's values and business practices.
  • Understanding of commodity option price models (e.g. Black-Scholes), quantitative risk metrics (e.g. Value-at-Risk, volatility, correlation), and general finance concepts (e.g. time value of money, interest rates, derivatives).

This job is responsible for transacting short-term energy or gas purchases/sales. Employees in this role develop, communicate, and execute trading strategies with guidance. This position may lead and direct a team of junior traders.

  • Monitors market conditions and analyzes transactions to help in identifying and executing energy trades
  • Ensures transaction terms are beneficial to the organization and meet risk guidelines
  • Optimizes economics to assure minimum energy supply costs and maximizes profits for generation portfolio
  • Determines generation requirements and coordinates fuel procurement to meet obligations
  • Coaches junior traders
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
