Job description

Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing and developing innovative strategies focused on alternative solutions to avoid, reduce, or defer traditional investment in natural gas system infrastructure. Review existing natural gas system infrastructure, identify opportunities for alternatives, and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to promote sustainable and efficient practices. Partner with other business units to implement alternative solutions to reduce expansion of the natural gas system and advance a clean energy future. Provide input on overall strategic direction and initiatives for the gas utilities of all OpCos (both distribution and transmission) and develop recommendations for performance governance. Provide leadership on large projects and partners with other gas functions to improve current processes and coordinates the implementation of new processes as needed. Leads critical projects on behalf of the organization and serves as a liaison and represents the organization with key business partners.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for alternative solutions in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize and implement sustainable practices, technologies, and processes.
  • Analyze data and performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of implemented solutions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure safety and reliability of the natural gas system.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to foster sustainability partnerships, engage employees, and promote a culture of innovation.
  • Conceptualize and design market transformation initiatives.
  • Implement programs that effectively address barriers to implementation.
  • Represent the Company in public forums and industry conferences related to alternative gas planning initiatives.
  • Appear as an expert witness for the company on regulatory matters and with key business partners.
  • Coordinate the annual strategic business planning effort, to include the creation of operating plans, scorecard baselines, and performance management considerations for the organization. Evaluate the key performance indicators and individual goals for consistency, measurability, and alignment with overall strategic initiatives and plans.
  • Attract, recruit and retain the talent necessary to meet business objectives. Communicate clear performance expectations, regularly measure the performance of those standards.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics or related discipline and/or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Xcel Energy's accounting, budgeting and financial forecasting procedures and systems.
  • Ten or more years of utilities, clean energy, financial analysis, and/or regulatory experience.
  • Ability to appear as an expert witness.
  • Demonstrated experience in business and operational performance measures and scorecards.
  • Experience in successfully managing projects and budgets.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience facilitating, implementing and administering business plans, performance management and process improvement programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient at database and personal computer analytics and reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to implement projects that cross organizations, business units and professional disciplines, supporting culture change.

Preferred Requirements
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience in non-pipeline alternatives and/or decarbonization initiatives.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $129,000.00 to $183,200.00 per year
