Summary

Spire is seeking a Business Development Representative for Residential.  This position will be responsible for profitably adding new residential customers, and expanding gas utilization of existing customers. Employee provides comprehensive coverage of their assigned sales territory; keeping abreast of new construction projects and all other activities related to gas sales.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attract new customers by developing short and long-term strategic goals for assigned sales territory; build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities and maintain knowledge of current market conditions.
  • Identify market influencers (contractors, developers, business owners, architects, engineers & others) and successfully position the Company to earn business by communicating a value proposition including preparation of first cost, operating cost and life cycle cost analyses for various fuel and equipment types as necessary for customer presentations.
  • Act as a critical point of contact with customers between internal departments and assist in scheduling activities when necessary.
  • Profitably convert customers to natural gas from alternative fuels through prospecting, and
  •  Present energy studies and cost-analysis presentations to potential conversion candidates.
  • Use Salesforce to track new business opportunities and monitor progress toward individual and departmental goals.
  • Possess a solid working knowledge of the natural gas market and develop skills centered on various industry technologies as assigned by the department manager.
  • Utilize internal systems, other departments and all tools necessary to identify opportunities to streamline projects/opportunities.
  • Participate in assigned industry organization functions; this includes trade organizations, mechanical contractors, and architectural and engineering firms, in addition to representing Spire at various company-sponsored entertainment activities, energy-related community functions and other events as required.
  • Understands and successfully communicates natural gas benefits, rebates and processes to customers.
  • Works cross-functionally with other departments to develop marketing materials promoting end-user customer benefits of natural gas.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned and communicate project status and results to staff and management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree, required.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license, required.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
  • Three to five years of sales or equivalent experience directly interfacing with customers, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the gas industry rates and tariffs as well as bill calculation, computation of gas consumption & revenue.
  • Familiar with residential & commercial construction schedules.
  • Knowledge of natural gas installation codes and standards.
  • General understanding of various types of C&I end-user heating and processing equipment, C&I facilities, and general understanding of various natural gas meter sizes/types.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and architecture plans.
  • Salesforce experience, preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical demands, environment and schedule
  • Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed remotely in the field, in the company vehicle, on construction sites and occasionally in a shared office environment.
  • Typically, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
  • Minimal overtime/travel required.
