Job description

Waste Connections is the premier provider of solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services, along with recycling and resource recovery, in mostly exclusive and secondary markets across the US and Canada.
We are looking to hire a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Plant Technician that will be associated with the new RNG Plant scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2026 at our Arrowhead Landfill located near Uniontown, Alabama. The new full-time RNG Plant Operator position will help manage the plant's resources, be responsible for optimizing plant performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and be a part of a team of other operators and technicians.
The ideal candidate for this position will not only have a proven track record in terms of daily production managing abilities but will also have demonstrated capabilities to work independently and within a team applying sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) that supports a High BTU landfill gas plant. Includes the supervision and direction of technicians and contractors as needed.
  • Monitor plant performance and optimize plant processes to maximize gas recovery and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve plant efficiency and profitability, including exploring new revenue streams.
  • Coordinate with landfill site management to ensure the plant operates in compliance with site regulations and best practices.
  • Manage inventory of plant supplies and materials.
  • Participate in in-house and third-party safety and environmental audits and implement recommendations and follow ups
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with site management, regulators, and local communities.
  • Stay within operating parameters set by Waste Connections and management notification procedures with respect to any production problems.
  • Cooperate with other site stakeholders and corporate leadership in achieving overall site goals in terms of safety, environment & health, facility performance and other corporate goal requirements.

Job Requirements:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing operations and maintenance in an industrial setting is strongly recommended
  • A valid US Driver's License
  • Strong verbal, written, computer communication and organization skills. OR Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of plant operations, maintenance and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to landfill gas and renewable energy.
  • Experience performing mechanical maintenance on blowers, compressors, and equipment is desirable.
  • Experience with gas processing or similar systems, mechanical and electrical systems are desirable.
  • Experience with computer-based monitoring systems; SCADA, SCS Tools web-based application, PLCs and programs; etc.
  • Experience planning, scheduling and directing plant maintenance outages.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Be available for 'on call' support, response or varied schedule needs.
