Job description

Job Title : Hardware Design Test Engineer

Duration: 12+ Months

Rate: $60-70/hr on Vendor W2

Location: Carson, CA (Onsite)

Conversion Salary Range: $125,000โ€“$140,000 base salary (if converted)

Position Overview: Although titled as a Test Engineering role, this position is heavily focused on the design and development of custom hardware test equipment and automated test systems for EV power electronics, including inverters, onboard chargers, DC fast chargers, and PCB assemblies (PCBAs). This is not a traditional test execution role. The engineer will be responsible for designing, documenting, building, and supporting the test equipment itself.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop custom electronic test equipment and automated test stations.
  • Design functional test hardware for PCB assemblies (PCBAs).
  • Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and detailed test system documentation.
  • Utilize CAD and electrical design tools such as Altium and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Support fabrication, assembly, and bring-up of custom test equipment.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate automated test solutions.
  • Work with National Instruments PXI/cDAQ platforms, instrumentation, and communication protocols including:
    • CAN
    • Ethernet
    • RS232
    • USB
    • GPIB
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis, and analyze test data.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or related discipline).
  • Experience designing hardware test systems, fixtures, or automated test equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design, schematics, and electronic hardware.
