About the Role
In this role, you will design, implement, validate, and maintain electrical and mechanical test solutions used in Axcelis manufacturing operations. You'll collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support new product introduction, optimize test coverage, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
Your work will directly influence product reliability, cycle time, and throughput-key factors driving the performance of our global customer base.
This position provides exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines, including electronics, mechanical design, automation, instrumentation, data analysis, and troubleshooting of complex test systems.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment, custom test fixtures, and tooling
  • Build and validate test systems using a combination of modeling, mechanical design, and hardware integration
  • Perform hands-on debugging of test equipment, instrumentation interfaces, sensors, and PCBA-level hardware
  • Analyze test data to identify failure modes, root causes, and process variations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Quality, and Process Engineering-to define test requirements and ensure alignment with product needs
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed test documentation, procedures, calibration instructions, and engineering reports
  • Support new product introduction by developing test strategies and fixtures for emerging technologies
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase test throughput, enhance repeatability, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability
  • Utilize a variety of manufacturing technologies, including subtractive and additive fabrication tools, to meet fixture performance requirements

What We're Looking For
Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience (co-op or internship experience welcome)

Technical Skills:
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar)
  • Experience using basic measurement tools and lab equipment, including DMMs, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers
  • Familiarity with DAQ systems such as National instruments cDAQ, PXI and the associated software like NI LabView and NI TestStand.
  • Ability to use fabrication tools (hand tools, calipers, 3D printing, basic machining)
  • Competency with data analysis techniques and tools such as Excel, Python, MATLAB, or similar
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Gantt charts, Microsoft Project, or Planner

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$66,565.20 - $99,847.80
This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
