At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work - and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.
Please note that this opportunity is contingent on program funding. Start dates are determined after funding confirmation.
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.
The successful candidate will be performing combat vulnerability and stress analysis to quantify the effects and consequences of combat damage on military aircraft. The vulnerability analysis will include kinetic weapons such as projectiles, missiles, and warhead fragments. This position supports the creation of probabilistic hostile weapon effects using sophisticated computer tools and determining how predicted effects impact system capabilities. The position requires modeling of aircraft design configurations for input into the Vulnerability Toolkit and specifically using the Computation of Vulnerable Area Tool (COVART), performing the baseline and sensitivity analysis, and assessing the validity of the results.
The successful candidate will have a proficient understanding of critical aircraft structure with an emphasis on analyzing catastrophic structural failures. Specific problems of interest include modeling and analyzing damaged vehicle FEMs based on Live Fire Testing results using FEMAP/NASTRAN. The position involves coordination with aircraft design engineers to eliminate or minimize the risk of an aircraft kill from hostile threats.
We offer flexible work arrangements, 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off, phenomenal learning opportunities, exposure to a wide variety of projects and customers, and a very friendly team environment. We are looking for self-directed professionals who thrive in collaborative environments.

• Experience with finite element modeling (FEM) using linear solvers (FEMAP/NASTRAN preferred).
• Experience using computer aided design tools (NX preferred).
• Experience in scripting and automation coding languages (Python, MATLAB, etc.).
• Experience with Airframe Structures or Subsystems in the Air Vehicle discipline.
• Experience with MS Office Suite products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Coursework and/or work experience in non-linear NASTRAN solutions.
• Experience working with design engineers to generate creative design solutions.
• Experience with vulnerability analysis tools such as COVART and FASTGEN.
• Experience with creating kill/fault trees to capture aircraft redundancy
• Experience with failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
• Current active U.S. Government secret clearance
