This union represented position is located at NASA/White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Job Overview
This union represented position will provide crane operation for construction and/or facility maintenance operations in the Construction, Maintenance, and Operations section of the White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) Facilities Department.
CBA Hourly Rate: $45.48 plus .31 COLA.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Primary duties include crane operations for a wide variety of work supporting NASA/WSTF and other associated government agencies on site and external locations.
  • Perform all duties of the Heavy Equipment Operator classification as stated when not performing Crane Operator functions.
  • Applies working technical knowledge with a thorough understanding of all phases of crane operation, which may include quadrant of operation, load charts, crane structural/stability limits, shock loading, boom deflections, and other applicable areas.
  • Understanding of construction drawings and/or sketches including interpretation of specifications.
  • Must have thorough working knowledge of standard OSHA mobile crane signals.
  • May guide crane operator training activities for other licensed Crane Operators in Training.
  • Document completed work and submit work orders for review.
  • Complete timecard daily with proper pay and charge codes.
  • Comply with all WSTF Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards associated with craft specific tasks and general WSTF operations.
  • Perform and document pre-task planning including recognition of hazards, mitigation, use of PPE, and safe working practices. Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the appropriate tasks.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, workshop, and work truck.
  • Work overtime, pre-shift overtime, rotating shift, odd-workweek, and holidays as needed and as outlined in the CBA.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Contribute to a team effort and accomplish related results as required.
  • Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing quality and timely support services.
  • Position requires routine outdoor work in a desert environment.
  • Ability to work in all environmental conditions is required.
  • Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities due to operational requirements.
  • Will work under the direction of a manager and supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform duties consistent with this classification with very limited supervisor and/or direction.
  • Must keep management and Lifting Device Equipment Manager (LDEM) updated on crane/lift related matters.
  • Must be able to performs tasks working as a member of a team with other classifications and provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians.
  • Indirect supervision may be required to ensure safety of all employees and equipment.
  • Impact on cost of operations and equipment.
  • Work must be performed efficiently, safely, and to the required standard.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current NCCCO or OSHA 1926, Subpar CC (WM SAF-0002 Ch.10 Part 10.4.10) approved Crane Operator license or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of documented experience in crane operations and current Crane Operator license.
  • Crane qualifications will be approved by NASA Lifting Devices Equipment Manager (LDEM).
  • Valid commercial driver license A with Hazardous Materials endorsement; (CDL-A HazMat) with an acceptable driving record.
  • US citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearance level.
  • Meet requirements for certification as specified in the White Sands Training Database, SATERN, and other applicable training forms.
  • Once established, must maintain all certifications referenced in the applicable Form 544 to remain qualified in this classification.
  • Must pass a physical examination as determined by the WSTF physical examination requirements identified for this job classification.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to use basic Microsoft (MS) Office products including, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and
  • Outlook as well as other applicable computer programs/systems.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily on-site at the WSTF campus; may include occasional travel to other NASA centers or technical workshops.
  • Exposure to industrial environments including high-pressure systems, cryogenics, and hazardous testing conditions.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods and working on elevated platforms.
  • Ability to travel around the facility, often in rough terrain, as well as climbing ladders,
    walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
Physical Requirements:
  • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility, must be able to quickly evacuate building in the event of an emergency.
  • Sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, and ability access remote structures.
  • Must be able to regularly lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders and flights of stairs on a regular basis.
