What is a NASA Data Visualization specialist?

A NASA Data Visualization specialist is a professional who transforms complex scientific and engineering data from NASA missions into visual formats such as charts, graphs, animations, or interactive tools. Their work helps scientists, engineers, and the public understand large and intricate datasets from space missions, research, and experiments. They use specialized software and design principles to make data more accessible, insightful, and engaging. These specialists often collaborate with researchers to ensure accuracy and clarity in representing scientific findings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a NASA Data Visualization specialist?

To thrive as a NASA Data Visualization Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, a background in data science or a related field, and experience with visual storytelling. Proficiency with tools like Python, MATLAB, Tableau, and GIS software, as well as familiarity with NASA data formats, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating complex datasets into impactful visual insights. These capabilities are essential to accurately convey scientific findings and support mission-critical decision-making at NASA.

What are the main challenges someone in a NASA Data Visualization role might face when presenting complex data to diverse audiences?

One of the primary challenges in a NASA Data Visualization role is translating complex scientific data into visuals that are understandable for both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll often work with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and public outreach professionals, each with different levels of data literacy. Balancing accuracy with clarity, ensuring accessibility, and adapting visualizations for various formats (such as reports, presentations, or interactive dashboards) are key aspects of the job. Regular collaboration and feedback from stakeholders are essential to refine visual outputs and ensure that critical insights are communicated effectively.

Job description

About Formlabs:

Do you want to change how the world creates?

At Formlabs, we're building the tools that make it possible for anyone to bring their ideas to life, from cutting-edge products to life-saving medical devices. Our 3D printing technology powers innovation at more than 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. Together, we're helping everyone design, prototype, and manufacture faster than ever before.

We're a team of hands-on builders, engineers, and innovators reinventing how the world makes physical things. If you're ready to shape the future of fabrication, come build it with us.

About Form Now

Form Now is a startup within Formlabs, backed by a small, fast-moving team of about 20 people. It's the next step in furthering Formlabs' mission: giving anyone, from individual builders to engineering teams, access to high-quality 3D printing without owning a printer. Users upload a model, choose from high quality materials, and Formlabs handles production, bridging the gap between idea and reality without the upfront cost of a machine. As the sole marketer for this business, you'll have full ownership of a marketing function and the challenge of scaling it from the ground up.

Your Impact:

We're looking for a Marketing Generalist to own growth for Form Now end to end. We need someone who can wear many hats, from working on customer acquisition, to launching and iterating quickly on new campaigns. You'll need to be strong analytically, comfortable running email, events, and LinkedIn outreach, and willing to try channels you haven't touched before. You'll work directly with leadership to connect what the product can do with how we message and sell it to new customers.

Breadth matters more than depth here. We'd rather have someone who can move fast across five channels than someone who's only ever gone deep on one.

What You'll Do:

  • Use analytics to identify where Form Now should grow next: which customer segments, which channels, and which campaigns are actually working
  • Own campaign effectiveness end to end: set up email and LinkedIn campaigns, run them, and measure what drove results
  • Independently plan and execute events as a channel for reaching new B2B customers, from small businesses to medium and large accounts
  • Connect Form Now's product roadmap to marketing: turn what the product does into positioning and messaging that lands with buyers
  • Pull together campaign analysis, competitive tracking, and channel experiments into a coherent growth plan you own end to end
  • Make A/B testing and fast iteration a habit rather than an occasional exercise; ship, measure, adjust, repeat
  • Write and manage customer-facing copy and email, from acquisition sequences to lifecycle messaging
  • Use AI tools, including Claude, as a daily part of the job to move faster on research, campaign builds, and analysis

About You:

  • 2-10 years of B2B marketing or growth experience; slope and grit matter more than years
  • A track record of taking on projects solo, from concept through execution, and knowing how you measured success
  • Comfortable being customer-facing when the job calls for it
  • Strong analytically: you can build a manageable tracking system, read your own campaign data, and act on it without waiting for someone else to hand you a dashboard
  • Have run or set up events independently
  • Growth mindset: you're not precious about the channel you know best and you'll try new approaches quickly
  • High energy and not afraid to be scrappy; a startup-within-a-startup environment means undefined problems and few guardrails
  • Use AI tools fluently in your daily work, held to the same quality bar as your own

Bonus Skills:

  • B2B experience specifically
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools (GBQ/SQL, DataStudio/Looker, etc.)
  • Comfortable with copywriting and customer marketing, even if it's not your primary strength
  • You've built your own tools, whether that's a scraper for a prospect list, an automation that stitches two tools together, or a landing page you shipped without waiting for design.

Our Benefits & Perks:

  • Robust equity program to build future wealth through RSUs
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision)
  • 401K matching and access to financial advisors
  • Generous paid Parental Leave (up to 16 weeks)
  • Tenure-based paid Sabbatical Leave (up to 6 weeks)
  • Flexible Out of Office Plan - Take time when you need it
  • Ample on-site parking & pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Healthy on-site lunches, snacks, beverages, & treats
  • Regular sponsored professional development opportunities
  • Many opt-in culture events across our diverse community
  • And of course... unlimited 3D prints

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Even if you don't check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply. Help us build an inclusive community that will change the face of 3D printing.
