The Opportunity
Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking an experienced, mechanically-savvy Senior Field Service Engineer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives on taking ownership of complex technical challenges and delivering world-class customer service. Based in the Bay Area, San Francisco ideally, you will play a critical role in supporting groundbreaking science in the San Francisco/ Bay Area, as well as support the PNW territory, ensuring our customers maximize the potential of our sequencing technology.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Field Service Engineer, you will:
  • Provide outstanding on-site and remote technical support to our customers.
  • Perform installations, maintenance, and repairs of our advanced sequencing instruments.
  • Conduct training sessions to ensure customers can successfully implement and operate our technology.
  • Identify and resolve intricate technical issues by applying your knowledge of Linux and IT systems.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams to ensure flawless service delivery.
  • Maintain detailed records of services provided and customer interactions.
  • Submit service reports, expense reports, and work orders in a timely manner.
  • Drive continuous improvement via feedback to Manager and Internal Teams.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of service parts.

What You'll Bring
  • Educational Foundation: A BS (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proven Expertise: At least 5 years of field service experience, ideally within laboratory diagnostics or life science instrumentation (NGS experience is a significant plus).
  • Technical Toolset: Professional proficiency in Linux OS, IT networking, and CRM platforms like Salesforce.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
  • Ready for the Road: A valid driver's license and the flexibility for frequent regional travel (up to 70%), with occasional travel across the US, Canada, and Latin America.

The salary for this role is between $120,000 - $140,000 USD . The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the successful candidate. Certain roles within ONT are eligible for an annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
