POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Quality Inspector supports our defense manufacturing operations by performing detailed visual and dimensional inspections of formed, fabricated, welded, coated and assembled components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, contract requirements, and applicable defense and quality standards.
  • This position places significant emphasis on heavy visual inspection, weld presence and workmanship verification, and surface finish inspection following powder coating and other finishing processes. Accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to documented requirements are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform receiving, in-process, and finished goods inspections in accordance with approved drawings, travelers, inspection plans, and contract flow down requirements.
  • Conduct heavy visual inspection of fabricated and welded components to verify weld presence, configuration, completeness, and overall workmanship.
  • Inspect welds for visible defects such as cracks, undercut, porosity, overlap, incomplete fusion, and other surface discontinuities per internal and external standards.
  • Perform surface finish and coating inspections on powder-coated and painted parts, verifying coverage, uniformity, adhesion indicators, and cosmetic acceptance criteria in accordance with customer, military, and internal specifications.
  • Utilize hand gages and basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gages, thickness gages, radius gages, etc.) to verify dimensional characteristics.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T basics, weld symbols, notes, and specifications, including customer and military standards where applicable.
  • Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material, initiating nonconformance reports (NCRs) in compliance with quality system procedures.
  • Accurately record inspection results and maintain objective evidence required for audit readiness and customer review.
  • Communicate inspection findings effectively with production, quality, and engineering personnel to support corrective action and defect prevention.
  • Support first article inspections (FAI) and source inspection activities as required.
  • Adhere to all quality system requirements (e.g., ISO 9001) and applicable defense contract requirements (DFARS flow downs as applicable).
  • Follow security, export control, and document control procedures when handling controlled drawings and data.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment; defense, aerospace, or other regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing visual weld inspection for presence and workmanship (CWI certification not required but beneficial).
  • Experience inspecting powder-coated or painted parts for functional and cosmetic quality.
  • Proficiency with hand gages and basic dimensional inspection techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to make objective, repeatable accept/reject decisions.
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection records and quality documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) or formal weld inspection training.
  • Experience working under military specifications, ASTM standards, or customer-specific requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and internal audit expectations.
  • Experience supporting customer or government source inspections

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive inspection tasks.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of parts.
  • Ability to lift up to 35-50 lbs. as required.
  • Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding, coating, and fabrication processes; PPE required.
  • Must be able to comply with facility security and export control requirements.
