Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music (Director of Bands) to beginFall 2026.

This is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music (9month faculty position) serving as Director of Bands. Primary duties will includedirecting the undergraduate Symphonic Band; teaching undergraduate music courses; advising and mentoring students; and providing service to the department, college, and university. Duties also include recruiting students and actively growing and promoting the band program within the university and broader community, with the goal of increasing visibility, enrollment, and participation in performances and festivals. Teaching load is 15 semester credit hours per semester (Fall. Spring). Duties also includementoring and advising students; attending faculty meetings; teaching additional undergraduate music courses as needed; and engaging in community and professional outreach that supports recruitment and enhances the visibility of the Symphonic Band and music program. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most comprehensive college at the university. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers undergraduate programs in music, art, theatre, and dance, and emphasizes student success, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate (DMA or PhD) in Conducting, Music Education, or a closely related field by the start of the Fall 2026 semester; demonstrated excellence in teaching and ensemble leadership; ability to direct a collegiate band; commitment to student recruitment, mentoring, and service. We strongly encourage candidates with significant experience directing collegiate bands, developing and growing instrumental programs, engaging in community and regional outreach to support recruitment, and collaborating effectively with colleagues within a comprehensive undergraduate music curriculum.

Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
