Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Living Classrooms' Ascend through Music Program is based atthe UA House on Fayette, working with the surrounding Baltimore City communityand youth. Through its various initiatives, AMP provides opportunities to learnskills in music technology, musical instruments, creating original music,recording and performance with the purpose of developing self-expression andpositive character/life skills.

Under the direction of the Director of Music programming,Music Educators will develop and teach programming across Living Classroomssites that encompasses musical development, self-expression and positivecharacter skills. Programming involves working with children, youth and adultsand integrating music technology, music instruments, performances, and creatingoriginal music and projects, as well as designing creative project andperformance concepts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      Approximately5-10hrs/wk, hours flexible within Monday-Friday 3-8pm or weekends 9am-2pm

   Teach group and1:1 sessions in vocals and songwriting

   Assist and/or leadfacilitate performance groups and ensembles

   Maintenance ofprogram equipment, instruments, materials and tools.

   Create and facilitate sequential and engaging lessons,activities and experiences that develop skills, knowledge, creativity andconfidence in music

   Plan and guide students in preparing final projects and/orperformances

   Incorporate effective classroom management to maintain astructured, positive learning space

   Collaborate and Assist Director and team with program-wideperformances, recordings, and projects

   Interact professionally and appropriately with students,parents, teachers, staff, community

   Participate in site staff meetings and on-going trainingopportunities

   Capture, create, and upload content on program's onlineplatforms

   Comply with all LCF/AMP policies and procedures

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

       Mastery of at least 2 of the following: piano, guitar, bass,drums, singing, rapping, engineering

       Preferred: basicproficiency or willingness to learn other instruments or creative competencies

      2 years of experience working with agroup of young adults and older adults in a structured setting

      Skill in planning and preparingstudents for performances

  Understandingand knowledge of basic music theory, as it relates to making and creating music

  Preferred: comfort with reading and creating music (improvisation, compositions, and/or song lyrics)

       Strong communication and organizational skills

      Ability to work in a changingenvironment and address the varying needs of students

  Preferred: Connection to Baltimore City community and/or local musiccommunity

   Preferred: Bachelor'sDegree

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The dress code isbusiness casual. Living Classrooms will provide each staff person with a staffshirt. Staff shirts should be worn with slacks/skirts or appropriate jeans(e.g. no holes, no writing, too revealing, etc.).Â
